New to the org, a few things to point out...

Hi! I'm Kristin. I've been following the org for a few weeks now, and finally decided that since mostly all of the posts I see across the internet about Prince come from the org, that I'd sign up!

A few things have been on my mind lately that I just need to get out... Number 1, is if we could bring Prince back and have him listen to some popular music, what would he say? He hardly ever listened to music while he was here, so I would love to sit him down to see his reactions. He said in his interview with the View, "Different strokes for different folks," but I'd just like to sit him down and listen to him talk about music these days.

Number 2, has anyone ever noticed that with his Mayte and Manuela photos, his arm is almost always around them? I mean, yeah, they were his wives, but I love how he eyes the camera in some of those photos. It's like he's saying, "Yeah, she's mine, and I'm proud of it." I REALLY love it. It shows his traditional, sweet and doting side. And being a single woman....... I really wouldn't have minded being Prince's arm candy. Now, Prince was old enough to be my father, but HOLY MOLY would I have died and gone to Heaven if I could've been Prince's arm candy for a night.

I have a number 3, but I'm not sure I want to cross that line yet... you know, I'm new here.

Haha! I'm looking forward to getting to know the community on the org!

I'm sure he listened to some music, but he always talked about in interviews how he stayed busy writing, playing, and singing his own music rather than listening to other artists' music. I'm sure he listened to music from his influences like Jimi Hendrix, James Brown, Larry Graham, etc. but I don't think he kept up with many current artists' music. I wanna know what he thinks about today's music.

I find it her weird. He wanted to help young artists so he had to listen to their music?

So many questions I would love to ask him.

Welcome!

But not sure I agree with this statement. He was a big fan of going to the local 'wreck-stow' and picking up new music. There's even a list of the albums he picked up right before his passing

he listened to all Joni Mitchell stuff

But he listened to a lot of younger artists stuff.

Prince followed a lot of female artists that had a reflection:FKA Twigs, Lianna La Havas, Andy Allo,

He listened to other musicians too:Ida Kristine Nielsen, Liv Warfield, Donna Grantis

Prince mastered so many musical styles. That is part genius, but surely a large part came from listening to music. Just to pick up new sounds, new chords, new gimmicks, new rythms and than fusing it all into his own sound.

I said it before, Prince learned all his life, like an Musicology academic. He started as an interested student, then he graduated, then he got his PhD and then he proceeded as full professor by passing on his skills to protegees and promoting them.

In many of those pics you posted it seems like his eyes are saying "take this f***ing pic and get it over with"... like he wasn't feeling genuine...

I agree I've been thinking about that too. I am constantly hearing music and thinking..."what did Prince think of this?" I've even tried to Google it thinking I'd find some interviews or people talking about what his thoughts were on new musicians.

He was a big Kate Bush fan, too. He certainly listened to other artists' music but i think he mostly stuck to his favourites like most people do.

There are a few songs in particular that I had in mind when I wrote the original post... I realize that he listened to budding artist's music, and he had his favorites that he listened to like Hendrix, and Adele, etc. But I would be curious to hear his reactions to "Beautiful Now" by Zedd, "Can't Stop the Feelin'" by Justin Timberlake (I think he'd like that one!), and "Stressed Out" by Twenty One Pilots. Those are some of my favorites right now, and I've just been thinking of what reaction he might have.

Apparently he even reached out and requested that a girl cover one of his new ditties...Freeurself. Natalya did it justice IMO...Google it. Very pretty...sonically and visually.

You know, after I go back and look, I think you may be right. Lol but he held his composure well in those times where he might've been thinking that!

I think I'm going to re-watch that movie tonight. I'm in a mood, and the humor of this movie always cheers me up!
