Small Club

The Small Club bootleg is one of Prince's most amazing live "released" performances.

Questions-

Has Eric Leeds ever commented on missing the gig due to be "tired?" Seems like lame excuse...lol

Who is playing guitar in Forever in My Life...brilliant rhythm work?

Was this concert pro shot or has any footage ever been leaked?

No known pro shot or other footage

ALT+PLS+RTN: Pure as a pane of ice. It's a gift.

Matt Thorne writes in his book that he interviewed Eric, but decided not to ask about this legendary gig that Eric missed... So... Unless somebody else did ask, I guess there's no statement from. Mr. Leeds...

Can you imagine how exhausting that tour must have been? Eric had done the photoshoot, probably ran through a soundcheck, performed a whole concert and was about to go through another day of something similar. I respect Prince for letting him shuffle off to bed.

There was no reason for Eric to suppose that the Small Club gig would end up being such a legendary performance. If he had been there, the whole flavour of the songs would have changed and we would probably have got less of Prince's guitar work. There's no way to know if that would have been better or worse, but it would certainly have been different.

Exhausting? Imagine life as Prince during this era.

Of course Prince was on a whole other level, but not only did he possess a driven personality, he was also in control of his workload. Eric is a fine muscian who I have no doubt loved performing on that tour, but he was also an employee. I'd imagine that working for Prince was far more exhausting than actually being Prince.

Going back to the question of video footage of this show, I seem to remember reading that the lighting in the venue was extremely poor with large parts of the performance taking place in near darkness. If that's true, I'm pretty sure this will forever be an aural rather than a visual experience.

Footage... There are rumors somebody had a videocamera, but indeed not confirmed. If there is footage of this show, it is the Holy Grail, imho.
