PeteSilas [/quote] "I cherished Prince, for the most part, unconditionally. I didn't really even mind his tantrums and quirks because as I've gotten older, I learned that everyone has a vile side, everyone. And I hated this site because he couldn't do anything right for these motherfuckers, nothing, and because I knew this day would come"

@ PETESILAS: Lol, I hear ya. Not one of us are perfect and could ever live up to anyone's standards. We'd fail miserably every time. I'm even appalled at myself sometimes. How many times have I had to apologize for stupid crap I did after reflection. Prince had a fan in you though for seeing him as a human being first and still a fan nonetheless.

Thank you. Sadly, I never saw him in concert. Cherish the fact that you did get to see him in your life time. It must have been a wonderful experience. You have all those memories! So envious of all you lucky fans that was smart enough to grab hold of that opportunity.

Being born in 1983, and missing an entire era of Prince concerts.

Not seeing him live. Not tweeting him thanking him for everything his music has done for me. For not listening to him as heavy as I used to for almost a year. I could kick myself right now for all those things sad

I regret

That I never saw him live

That I didn't give him the respect he deserved

That he had to suffer the unspeakale life-changing tragedy of losing a child

And that he died alone.

I regret not seeing his last aftershow EVER in March at American Music Hall, which took place about 20 minutes away from me, but I didn't find out about it until a week or two after he'd passed (they announced it as an AfterPARTY, which usually means he won't play, BUT HE PLAYED - I live for his aftershows!!!). cry

I regret not seeing the last tour, thinking "he'll be back soon enough" sad

Most of all, I regret that his people (& HE) didn't take that emergency landing incident seriously enough, & get him help ASAP. He'd still be here. Fuck speculation, fuck the public knowing - HE'D STILL BE HERE fit

heart prince I never met you, but I LOVE you & I will forever!! Thank you for being YOU - my little Princey, the best to EVER do it prince heart

Missing the entire 80's era because I was born in 1984. I would have definitely been a Prince fan over an MJ fan had I been an young adult during that time. But since I grew up in the 90's I was more familiar with Michael's music.

My biggest regret is turning down a FREE concert ticket to see the 1999 Triple Threat Tour with The Time and Vanity 6. I didn't become a hardcore Prince fan until Purple Rain in 1984. I had a chance to see the 1999 Tour in '83. I liked Prince then, but not enough to go see him in concert. I was an idiot! LOL!

Like many, I try hard to live in a way that regret doesn't influence me, but I'm right there with you on this one! Paisley Park is 14 hrs away, I'm pretty acclimated to traveling long distance...so I can't for the life of me understand why I never made the trip. I suppose I figured there would be more time?

& not that my pipe dream of singing/jamming with Prince would have ever come to fruition, realistically... but I never even gave myself the chance to try. However, I did communicate briefly with Prince @ the Everleigh party, after his last show in Toronto. Expressing my love for music & my gratitude gave me partial closure, at the very least...

Not seeing him last year when he was in town (it was my brother's birthday so I really couldn't SIL was having a party but somehow I still feel regretful about it) , never making it to Paisley Park, never reaching out in some way to say thank you, whether through social media or holding a sign up at a concert lol, ANYTHING. I wish I could have met him if only for a minute. For going through periods here and there of not paying attention as closely.

Yours was a beautiful post ,OP.

I have very few personal regrets regarding my time with Prince. Prince seemed to really like the UK (despite our tabloid newspapers' best attempts) so the UK did pretty well with regards to concerts. I was lucky enough to see him on over 20 times and also to get out to Paisley Park on a couple of occasions (a dance party with the man himself DJing + The Beautiful Experience concert).
.
That said...
.
I wish I'd been old enough to go see him on the Parade Tour at Wembley. I was just 15 so wasn't allowed to go concerts with friends yet.
.
I wish the Sign 'O' The Times Wembley dates had been rescheduled rather than cancelled. I had tickets for those so that would have been my first live experience of Prince.
.
I wish the 'Piano & A Microphone' EU dates hadn't been pulled. I'm sure we don't know the full story behind those yet (Ticketmaster? Terrorism? Illness?) but I'd always loved the piano segments of Prince's shows and dreamed of him playing something like this. To have seen him in London's Theatre Royal would have been so magical too.
.
The 'regret' I had most control over was missing the final aftershow during the O2 residency - the 3h+ one where Amy Winehouse appeared. I saw the main show on opening and closing nights of the Tour but since the aftershows were an unknown quantity at that stage I got A/S tickets for the first night only (where Prince did play, so I was really lucky). Even during the run, A/S tickets for that final night were available but precedent seemed to indicate Prince rarely played an aftershow on the final date of a tour, so I decided not to go for them. I very soon regretted that decision.
.
.
And obviously, like everyone here, my biggest wish is that Prince had felt comfortable enough or able to have sought out help earlier for whatever he was battling and that we still had him here, on the road to recovery.
.
Missed/cancelled concerts don't really seem that big in the grand scheme of things...
.

1) Only buying one copy of the Daily Mirror paper carrying the 2010 CD when I should've bought as many copies as I could fit in the garage! Have you seen them on ebay recently?!!? Crazy...

2) Slowly losing interest from 3121 onwards. It's unfortunately taken Prince's death to get me back focussed on Prince and really listen again (properly) to all the CDs he released in the past 10 years or so, which only had a handful of plays each at the time I bought them.

3) Not bothering to make the effort to travel and see him since the O2 shows. Being married with kids really shouldn't have been an excuse.

4) Going to the Virgin Megastore in Paris back in 92 and seeing a sign at the entrance saying that Prince and the NPG would be signing autographs today, only to find out the sign was for the previous day and hadn't yet been taken down!!! Still regret not popping in a day earlier...

I won't be able to take my 9 year old son to see him live, Prince played in Manchester 2 years ago, but I just thought he was abit too young with the crowd and how loud the sound systems are to come along, since then he's got into music generally and we often sing away to Prince in the car.

What a fantastic post by the OP. Really thought provoking, and I certainly equate with a lot of it.
.
I only discovered Prince's music in 1991 (I really wasn't impressed with him in the 1980s) and was pretty much a hardcore fan up until about 2001-ish.
.
I was disappointed with The Rainbow Children as I found it a pretty heavy listen. I bought Musicology but I didn't pay it enough attention really.
.
I split from the missus soon after (although that wasn't the fault of Musicology!) and I had a bit of turmoil in my life around releases like 3121 and 2010.
.
Saying that, I was aware enough to hear of the o2 shows at London and got to see my 3rd and final Prince show there.
.
From that point onward, I moved in with somebody else and my life went down a different avenue. I know very little of the Prince history, tours or releases from about 2011 onwards.
.
I have regrets about not even being aware he had toured the UK in recent years. I have regrets over not even knowing he had new music out. I have regrets over being completely being out of the loop.
.
But then, earlier this year, I actively searched Prince news and was floored when dates in the UK and Europe were being planned. Then came the pulling of the shows before they even went on sale. I was gutted.
.
I heard the news about him falling ill because of the flu in April, but when his image popped up on the BBC 6pm news on April 21 I immediately shushed the family by pointing at the telly going "Oooh!" thinking it was some big announcement about fucking Glastonbury or something and the newsreader just came in with "Tributes pour in as..." and I had to get up and take myself off to the kitchen to process it.
.
I've still found it incredibly difficult since he died to get my head around it. The guy was the epitome of life. Pop Life. I'm a bloke past his mid-40s and I admit to still getting choked up every now and then about the grief I'm feeling.
.
And the guilt.
.
The guilt of semi-tuning out after Rainbow Children, but mostly about those lost years between 2010 and 2015 when I didn't know he was over here on tour or even had new music out.
.
I've had so much guilt I queued up Plectrumelectrum, AOA, and the HnR albums on Amazon but emptied the basket because I was buying releases I should have bought when he was alive. It felt kind of wrong somehow?
.
Thanks for listening.

Thank you for the compliment on my post. So you didn't buy those albums from Amazon? You should totally get them. Don't let whatever guilt you are feeling stop you from enjoying what he worked so hard to accomplish. Honestly, his music that I've discovered since his death has bought me so much joy. I think I would have had much more guilt if all I had left to remember him by was the albums of the 80's. Lol, he literally didn't sleep so he could gift you with Plectrumelectrum, AOA and the HnR albums, so go for it!
wink

Same here I regret not seeing him live. I had that opportunity taken from me and the people who went in my place didn't even enjoy it or cherish what they were experiencing. I did get to hear him live over the phone though but I wanted more. It hurts that one of the top items on your bucket list will never be checked off. But all I can do now is move forward and honor him the best way I can. He will always be a part of my life.
We could have big fun 💜

Thanks for the compliment. If it's one thing that Prince's death has taught me, is to be there unequivocally in every moment of the things you find joyful in life. I relate to your voice of "not paying attention as closely." I've also learned this with my son as well. Every play, every track meet, every Christmas, I try to always be in the moment, as I'll never get that chance again at that exact moment in time. Now I'll try to put that in place in other aspects of my life.

I regret not following his music from 1993 onwards. I dunno why, I was busy with my marriage, kids, my jobs, for some reason I neglected Prince's music and now I feel guilty about it. Recently I listened to AOA over and over again and found it brilliant. Way Back Home and Affirmation III hit me hard, really hard, especially after his passing.

I went to only one Prince concert in all my life, it was the first night of the 21 Nights in London tour. My second regret is not to have gone to the afterhours party that night. Instead I went to my hotel and slept. Money was not an issue. People said the Tube wouldn't run that late and taxis would be impossible to find. I folded. I was such an idiot. Sigh. Now that I can watch his videos on Youtube, his afterhours parties look more fun than his concerts.
