Here we go....damn the aftermath of Prince's death has been even sadder than his actual death. Its all about money...I doubt if we will ever hear anything from that vault and at this point I really dont want to...its over.

Look at how Ali's family has celebrated his life and his contribution to humanity...we got nothing for Prince...truly sad.

Ali's passing and his funeral today has been inspirational and moving.

Prince? Reportedly cremated the day after. Gone and that's that. sad

Just heartbreaking...I mean he's forever in our hearts, but the way the whole thing played out bothers me...he deserves better.

but isn't that what Prince wanted? Sad for us, but look like his family/friends are abiding by his wishes in the matter.

But Prince did say, 'I'll celebrate the day I die'. Given his propensity to organise parties at the drop of a hat, I find it hard to believe that whilst he may well have wanted a quick cremation (to avoid horrible pictures of his corpse doing the rounds etc) that he wouldn't also have wanted us - his fams, his friends, his family, etc - to join in celebrating his passing.

I think he would have liked a huge, joyful, family-orientated 'coming together' of all of those who loved his music; something to which EVERYONE was invited...The fact that nothing has happened - zero - and that there seems to be 'all eyes on the prize (his money)' / estate, at the expense of HIM and that 'party like it was 1999' seems really wrong. It leaves a bitter taste in my mouth.

Exactly.
Loving someone means putting them first, regardless of how the world may choose to view it.
Let's not look at the man as some sort of possession, to be handled like some piece of memorabilia.
He was a living being whose body no longer held his spirit.
Now, it's all about supporting his legacy.
Buying music OFFICIALLY will keep his music available, for both current and generations to come.

I read somewhere (I've read so many articles they are all running together) Tyka said they were going to do a funeral but 'something happened' so they just had the private memorial instead and would plan something bigger for later in the summer. This is just a thought but I have wondered if finances kept them from doing something larger right now, and the family needs time to get funding etc for a large celebration. I mean, if George Lopez had to give them money to pay their bills, then I doubt they would have even been able to have a large funeral.

I hope the family was following his wishes....
Think he would want us to remember him through his music,
was hoping that would have meant unlimited music found easily etc...

I have a question. If he didn't have a will, how did they know what his burial wishes were?

I think given the fact that he was Prince, the decision was for his own protection.

I am only assuming he had voiced his wishes should something happen.

This is a myth/misconception. Usually attorneys do not write burial wishes into Wills.

Wills generally deal with property and/or debts. Human bodies are generally not considered assets of the estate.

For health reasons, human bodies after a death need to be dealt with as soon as possible. But dealing with the decedant's estate, may not be dealt with for a time afterward. If the only place you put your burial wishes is in your Will, by the time your Will is handled, it could be too late.

It is better to tell someone what you wish for your burial, usually a family member or a close friend, and/or write down your wishes and give that to a family member or a close friend and/or make sure they know where to find this information. Also many people now prearrange their funerals: buying the caskets, picking out plots, sometimes even choosing headstones, etc. - in this case, often the funeral director already has the decedent's wishes on file. (But you do have to be very careful when purchasing prepaid plans.)

Now we need to steer back to the OP's main topic.

I'm holding out for them to do something in August. I have faith in that but it is already mid-June so??

As for bootlegs and hard to find stuff from the vault, I can understand people grabbing what they can for fear it will never be released. If it gets released officially, make sure you buy it to support his legacy, and hopefully proceeds go to his favorite charities etc. to keep his dreams alive.

I think they seem to be doing everything right- they seem to be taking great care with it and I hope that's true.

Also I think it was easier to put Ali to rest. He was older and had been struggling with his health and it was visible. I mean we knew he was sick and that his time would eventually come sooner than later. It was more expected. Prince's death, at least for those that weren't privy to his inner circle, has been shocking and beyond devastating. Though I'm sure it's just as devastating for those who may have known something was up.I understand his friends and family may need to do some healing while things work themselves out. A death like this takes a lot of time. There's the added aspect of guilt I'm sure.

And yeah unfortunately it is about money because that is what Paisley Park needs to function. Maybe, I hope, they are doing all they can to preserve his wishes for Paisley Park to live on after he did.

I'm just trying to have faith.
Surprise, surprise.
Another treat. Another trick.

I was just talking with a friend today about this. I feel that the fans were robbed of celebrating the life of Prince and not allowed to properly mourn. I know the family was broke but somebody out there would have funded a proper public memorial.Such a dim end to the brightest star ever. However I feel,Ali's family did him justice with a beautiful funeral and allowed fans to line the streets to pay tribute to the Champ.

Of course whatever comes out of the vault eventually, I'd hope we would all buy. I know I will. Even the best quality sounding boots i have won't cut it if the original tapes get mastered properly. It's been great to hear improved quality over the years on some tracks, but you know they're still not quite right.

.

Just don't add shit that wasn't there before, that's all i hope for. Art is art. Nobody gave the 'Mona Lisa' eyebrows just because they weren't there.

Exactly. I read the Alan Leeds interview linked here (http://www.okayplayer.com/news/alan-leeds-prince-day-interview-miles-davis-the-vault.html ) and I think he has the right ideas so I hope they tap him. I'd feel super comfortable with him in charge. Does anyone know their relationship at the end? Would Alan have been someone Prince would have wanted handling it? Sounds like he really trusted him.

I'd go for Alan Leeds and he should circle himself with longstanding band members or engineers from different eras. Susan Rogers, Wendy & Lisa, Matt, Femi Jiya, Michael B and Sonny. Hell, even Miko & Levi if they can put the past in the past, Rhonda, Renato and Ida i feel they would know what's what.

The more I think about life the stranger it gets.

It's incredibly sad that 50-odd years of creativity and hard work can be brought down to this. Like it never meant a damn thing.

The law firm is just as aware as anybody of Prince's importance and stature, I doubt it will do anything sprawling to harm his legacy. If they want to let people use his music in movies and on tv -- all the better. People need to hear his music so there's a market for future releases.
