Frightened, eh?

The beauty of the online environment is that you consume what you like. Meaning, if there is a thread or content that you don't care for, you don't have to view it. It's a really simple concept.

Or...if he was terminally ill, I think that makes the lack of an estate plan all the more suspect. Either way you cut it, I just can't believe he died intestate. Call me a conspiracy theorist, but I'm convinced that there is more to this story than meets the eye.

An attorney is legally bound to step forward with the Will. Also the Will would have needed to be witnessed and/or notarized - no one has stepped forward as having done such - they are legally bound to do so.

Your lay opinion based on your leisure reading hobby as to legal matters is not accurate again. Please stop.

After multiple requests by multiple people, a sticky was finally made. We don't need 50 threads about the estate/will/trust.

So, now that the sticky was made (yesterday), why are some still complaining because some of us want to discuss the biggest, most consequential issue EVER in the Prince pantheon: his estate and his legacy? It might not be sexy, but it is immensely important.

I am not here to debate. I came here as a fan of Prince and a love of his music. When Prince suddenly passed as he did, I was traumatized, so I came here to the Org. There are attorneys on here; please back me up. What I have stated is not based on my "leisure reading hobby". I have worked professionally in estate planning since 1992. If there is something here that I have stated that you do not agree with, please state specifically what that is.

If an attorney has knowledge of a valid Will and/or Trust for Prince, they are dutybound to present it to the Court. If they would suppress it, they could be potentially opening themselves up to sanctions by the Court. I realize that I am hereby defending the field of Law, but I don't believe that a lawyer would jeopardize the very means of their livelihood. The attorneys that I work with are too concerned about their bottom line - they scrutinize every expense with a microscope. I suppose there may be a legal professional out there somewhere that could be "bought off". I don't think that there is an attorney on this Earth that is not aware of the death of Prince. The Will and/or Trust would most likely be drafted by a licensed attorney - by law, they are dutybound to produce the estate documents to the Court. In the remote possibility Prince wrote a Will and/or a Trust himself, the documents still need to be witnessed and/or notarized. None of these people have come forth and presented themselves to the Court.

I assure you: I do not like this situation any more than you do. But please do not shoot the messenger.

There is a possibility that a Will and/or Trust could still show up, for example from Prince's Vault, or maybe from a safety deposit box at some bank somewhere. But the more time passes, and as Bremer Trust itemizes the Estate's Inventory for the Court, the more that looks like that is not going to happen. I have been watching the Court and Bremer Trust's actions, as have other fans, including but not limited to Orgers, a percentage of which are legal professionals - I have not seen anything that is questionable.

I do realize that it is frustrating to just "sit and wait" while Bremer Trust meticulously drafts the Estate's Inventory for the Court. But we must give them proper time to work - I speak from hands-on experience regarding this. Do you want it done right? OR Do you want it done fast? As vast as I understand Prince's estate to be, the itemized Inventory could take months.

I don't want to steer away from the OP's subject matter, but I have said it before, and I will say it again: I believe the amount of pain that Prince was in was greatly underestimated. True, Prince himself bears some responsibility in just stating his physical limitations. But I do not believe Prince's estate plan is being suppressed. I don't believe he had an estate plan officially documented and executed. Prince may have had intentions, but without the proper documentation executed, the Court has nothing to defend his estate with except probate law. Prince is not the first celebrity to not have an estate plan upon their death. Do YOU have your Will done? (Yes, mine is done and already filed with the Court.)

Now, if there is something you don't agree with, then specifically state what it is. But please do not shoot the messenger.

(This is based on my current knowledge, information, belief, and experience. This is not legal advice - for legal advice, please consult with your attorney.)

Do you drive on roads? Drink tap water? Buy groceries from a grocery store? Eat at a restaurant? Get vaccinations for yourself and/or your children? Go to the hospital? Get medicines from your local pharmacy? Use libraries? Use the Internet? Receive and/or send mail? Be defended/protected by our military? Use a bank? Have the protection of your local fire department? Our way of life in the USA (don't take it for granted), depends on taxes. Freedom is not free.

That anniversary edition Purple Rain will bring in so much money. Quickly follow with SOTT in bluRay special edition box set- that will be 30 next year right? You get the 32nd Anniversary Edition of PR out ASAP - June 25 if you can. I would believe it's just sitting there ready and waiting to hit the shelves. Follow up with 35th anniversary of 1999 you dip back into pre Purple Rain Era Prince around New Years.

In Minnesota, there are requirements for a legal will and the courts tend to uphold them. I expect they would be even more likely to uphold those requirements for an estate this size. Hence, no, a legal will cannot take many forms here.

no, he does not. his life was a huge success insofar as he accomplished what he set out to accomplish. yours is not a true statement.

here's a true statement: you have no standing to make a comment like that.

.

you know nothing about whether or not prince left a will/trust/estate plan. this thread is pure speculation yet here you are, tirelessly flogging the downside.

I think you're both right. Prince was, by most reasonable criteria, a "success" but I'd agree with Bart some of his decisions where questionable to mere mortals like ourselves!

.

the estate tax bill?

.

i;m not involved in handling this matter so i don't *know* what's giong o.

.

from what i understand, things are moving VERY quickly over in probate land. prince died seven weeks ago.

.

i'm not sure why, but apparently before any meaningful valuation can have been performed on prince's estate/assets, the government has allegedly demand $150 million dollars tax on what they have claimed is a $300 million estate.

.

to rephrase, before the government has actually counted prince's gold, they want half of what they think it will be.

.

in order to satisfy an alleged tax debt due in January of 2017, prince's estate must pay this alleged tax.

.

SEVEN WEEKS safter prince's deasth, and before a valuation of his assets can have been performed, the amount has been decided upon and demand for payment is being made? already the pressure is on to sell prince's stuff????

.

bullshit. this is robbery

The only problem I see with this is that there was a giant rush of sales right after Prince's death of Purple Rain, 1999 and the hits packages.

I don't know if most people would re-buy Purple Rain so soon. It might be a release for the hardcore fans only, and it would have to be very enticing.

I had indeed overlooked that - good point, thanks.

No. No.

Also not an attorney. However "The due date of the estate tax return is nine months after the decedent's date of death, however, the estate's representative may request an extension of time to file the return for up to six months." -- giving a total of 15 months after date of death to file

In addition, interest will accrue after the official tax due date, which is why they were talking about January in court. Everyone's taxes are officially due by the end of the tax year. They are likely trying to avoid having to pay interest on the bulk of the money owed, so they'd like to pay as much this year as they can even if the final return hasn't been filed. (Assume disclaimer here.)

I noted probably on another thread, that the Bremer attorney was arguing the worst case scenario, as attorneys do, trying to win a court order that was being actively opposed. The press coverage therefore is all based on the worst case argument being made in a legal conflict. Yes it's a legitimate matter and there are legitimate concerns, but folks shouldn't be basing all understanding on click-bait internet language exaggerated off of an adversarial legal proceeding.

I don't, sorry!

Seems like the Catch-22 on more sales would be that it also increases the value of the Estate (which in turn increases the amount of taxes).

wink and back on topic. since neither one of us is an attorney we can now move on.

.

i was hoping an attorney would show up on this thread. speficically because i wonder whether bremer is doing what my old firm would have done - assign an individual to monitor all social media accounts and websites in connection with prince's estate management.

.

if i were bremer, i'd have someone all over this website, especially in connection with bootleg links and such.

what do you think Eileen? will we see someone like that here at prince org? hmm hmmm
