Thank you Purple Army...Thank you Prince

This is my first time posting on this site. I've visted many times to read comments but never joined.

April 21, 2016 was to date the worst days of my life. When I heard the news about Prince's death I felt like I was under water and could not breath. I ran out of work to my car and bawled my eyes out, I could not believe it, I felt like I lost my brother.

I first heard Prince's music when I was 10 years old living in Jamaica and immediately fell inlove. I was already considered to be weird by my peers because I loved rock n roll and funk music more than reggae and YES I loved Prince more than Bod Marley and was not afraid to say it. Prince's music was my refuge and naughty secret in my crazy hindu-catholic-protestant- strick-all girl school-no boyfriend until your 21 upbringing. I would listen to his songs over and over again writing the words down and reading them like poetry.

I migrated to the US at 15 years old which was a major culture shock and very depressing. Everything was different, the kids were different and once again I was considered weird, and the prude cheerleader. But Prince came to my refuge through MTV and VH1 and I had all his music on cassettes and CDs. I felt like he understood and guided me with his music and I was happy to follow.

As I got older I fell inlove with and appreciated his spirituality, his kindness and selflessness. I admired his fighting spirit, his boldness and his love for people and most importantly GOD.

When he passed, for weeks I could not focus. I couldn't eat or sleep and couldn't really talk to anyone about my loss and my pain because no one really understood. Then I remembered prince.org and guys you saved me. You all understood exactly how I felt. You cried with me, you grieved with me, you laughed with me then we would cry some more. Someone on this site always knew and understood how I was feeling so I had to join to say THANK YOU!!!!! I LOVE AND APPRECIATE EVERY ONE OF YOU!!!! You are all such a blessing in my life.

I strongly believe that in everything we should be thankful whether good or bad and it's taken me this long after Prince's death and a lot of praying but I am thankful...

I'm thankful that Prince is no longer in pain. I am thankful that God placed me on this earth with such a genius whose writing was poetry I loved more than Shakespear and whose voice and music touched my soul. That knowing him and losing him makes me want to be a better and kinder person and carry on the work he started. That he was a great teacher who taught us to love each other whether good or bad because love creates love and we all need each other to survive. That it is my responsibilty to dig deeper into my spirituality and find my true purpose. That there is always a way to serve. And that eye makeup is a must!lol

I think it was an interview with Rolling Stone that Prince was asked about his destination and he replied - My destination is complete oneness with God the knowledge of the truth. I also hope to make this my destination.

I believe it doesn't matter how you die but how you live your life and the legacy you leave behind and Prince lived a full life and left a great legacy.

He also said he wanted to be remember for his music. My copy of HITnRUN phase II just came in the mail so I'm going for a drive and play this CD. I might be crying when I get back but as usual you guys will be there for me. Thanks again!

Sorry my post is so long...just had to get it out smile

Welcome to the org and thanks for your comments! There are some awesome people on this site and the amount of support they have offered each other, especially since April 21, has been refreshing and uplifting to witness. I hope you enjoy Phase II. Let us know what you think about the collection when you have time.
