The most moving Prince performance I've watched since his passing.

I wish I could post a link, but must abide by the rules I spose. sad

It is a brief piano performance of The Ladder, taken from the Lovesexy tour rehearsals. I'm guessing it must've been released on some VHS back in the day, although I'd never seen it until it was uploaded recently since his passing.

I'm sure some of you folks know the clip I'm referring to, it shows Prince singing at the piano, and cuts to various clips of him at rehearsals, and clips of George Clinton, TTD, Little Richard and Eric Clapton talking about him. It's such a profoundly moving performance... definately worth checking out.

Let me hear some heart for The Ladder.

The video is featured in both Prince: Musical Portrait and BBC Omnibus The Prince Of Paisley Park documentaries

Yep. The BBC Omnibus is the one to track down. I have it on DVD.

Beautiful performance, which for my money, is the definitive reading of this song. Everything's on point - his gutsy vocal; the piano; that angular, haunting entrance of Eric's solo. I also love that bit where he bounces up after delivering a line, as if the sheer force of it delivering it had physically moved him. Heard it in the Omnibus doc in the early 90s, but great to hear the version online now without the interview segments that it had been interspersed with in that. The only downer is that it's still just a clip. One of these days, when they open the Vault, I hope we can see and hear the full version.
