Let's Have a Baby

How many people think this song is beautiful? I can't stop listening to this. Especially as a new mom, this song really warms my heart. Before I had child, I thought Emancipation was an ok album... some of the songs on it I did like but they weren't my favorite...I actually like a lot of "uplifting" songs on that album now that I have fully embraced motherhood. Like "Betcha By Golly Wow" and I love his version of "I can't make you love me".

I like the entire album. Prince did an awesome cover of Betcha By Golly Wow. https://en.wikipedia.org/...Golly,_Wow

The 2nd disc on Emancipation is actually my favorite disc and as a whole I really like the entire album. But whenever I get to this song I have to skip it ... it's just too sappy in a bad way - make me cringe.

If a man is considered guilty
For what goes on in his mind
Then give me the electric chair
For all my future crimes"

I actually find myself singing that song to my son and he loves it.

I found it too sad to listen to for many years - knowing that it was written about his baby with Mayte (before the baby died), I myself had 20 years of trying for a baby with my wife - but luckily we finally got our son last year -It's still sad but i try to find the happiness in it.

Not listened to it since 1996. I remember it vividly, but given what happened with Prince/Mayte, just too sad to listen to again. That's in MY vault. Forever. His life could have been sooooo different. Might still have been here too. sad

Congratulations on your baby. Fertility issues can be soul crushing. Yes, it was hearthbreaking what happened to Prince and Mayte's baby. Parenthood has been such a gift for me.

As for the song I really like the melody and in the lyrics he really captured how excited I felt when my husband and I decided we wanted to try for our son. I just love the joyful, hopeful nature of the song, but in context of Prince's life, it is very sad.

It's a "newly discovered" song for me, but one that I find myself singing around the house most often. It's very heartfelt. Sadder for me when P plays it for Oprah during the tv special; of course we know now why he was so somber at that time.

Listen to me closely as the story unfolds
This could be the saddest story ever been told....

I loved Oprah's reaction to listening to it. She was so touched by it! touched
