Kristen Scott Thomas: Prince mention

Scott Thomas was the subject of BBC Radio 4's long-running 'Desert Island Discs' radio programme (broadcast on Friday and again this Sunday).

Recounting her early career she described how she first heard that Prince was auditioning for a movie to be shot in France, requiring English speaking actors. She was working in France at the time and tried for the part. She was then very surprised to learn that they were interested in her playing the female lead role, particularly as she had originally understood from the casting director that the lead female role had already been filled.

This being her first major piece of work, she described it as a fairy-tale come true, suddenly being driven by limousine, staying in a hotel for work for the first time, and finding herself working in film. She said that she learned a tremendous anmount from the crew and enjoyed the experience. The script she described as 'a bit odd', remembering that she had to take a deep breath before she delivered some of the lines.

Whilst she explained that the film was not commercially succesful, it gave her tremendous exposure, and she expressed gratitude to Prince for the break he gave her.

She chose 'Girls and Boys' as her fifth song to take to the island as a reminder of the experience (and mentioning that it also showed her dancing - which she clearly was amused / embarassed about).
ALT+PLS+RTN: Pure as a pane of ice. It's a gift.

I'll tell you what...everything else around that movie may have gone wrong, but Kristen Scott Thomas was not one of those things. She was PERFECT to play the rich, snooty spoiled brat daughter of a shipping magnate. I mean really, could any of you imagine anyone else in that role? I can't. She was perfectly cast, IMO.
