Is any of their music available?

I'd love to hear it.

Did John L. record any music with Prince?

In the vault maybe??

Is there any information as to where they came up with the Prince Rogers Trio name??

Did they have an alternative/previous name for the group?

And 'Trio' lol. Wasn't Prince's mother also in the group for a while?

I can see Andre's resemblance, but not Prince's. The only thing is that they were both fine looking men with fine facial features.

Put your hand over John's face, and look at only his nose and below. I've seen Prince purse his lips like that more than once.

Maybe if he was sucking his cheeks in.... smile

Interesting that Prince's Father and Mother, both musicians, gave him the name of his Fathers stage name presence. Many artist prodigies are from musical families throughout history.

Brand new boogie without the hero.

cool, wish i could have heard him speak, just to see how much he sounded like a southerner. the written interviews i've read made him sound like a jazz guy, eloquent and with good diction. but if he left the south at 32, i can't see how he'd speak like the jazz guys i know.

I disagree, you can see Prince in his dad's face, especially the mouth/nose/chin area.

Prince's father has been in interviews on TV, especially around 1985/6. Just look for them. He was even interviewed in that MTV special in Sheridan, Wyoming.

.

But seriously.... John is credited on a few songs, especially "Computer Blue". The melody in the longer guitar solo is taken from "Father's Song", which John is credited solely with writing. It's the song Francis L. was playing in the movie, just before "Computer Blue". He's also credited with "Around The World In A Day", "Christopher Tracy's Parade", "Under The Cherry Moon", & "The Ladder". However, his real involvement isn't fully known. Sometimes Prince would credit folks here and there, just to generate income from them, since they would get a songwriter's royalty on records sold.

.

I would imagine they did record stuff together. I don't see how/why they wouldn't.

Hmm, I just watched it the other day - at least a piece of it. He's near the end, before they introduce Prince & The Revolution. But I feel like maybe there was another bit with him earlier on.

saw it, he didn't sound all that southern really, i mean, igrew up around some people from the deep south and they definitely sounded different. I wouldn't say he sounded as urbane as the jazz men i've known though either.

Not really, but Prince used some of his dad´s compositions, as mentioned by TrivialPursuit.

There was also an independent release by John L. Nelson in the mid 90s called "Father´s Song", an EP that had nothing to do with Prince´s Father´s Song from the Purple Rain film and tour.

The EP was also available as a bootleg. I quite like it but it does sound a bit unusual.

When will people ever get that The South is not just one accent? Same as The North. Sheesh! ever heard Allen Toussaint? He's from the "deep south".
