Dear Grammys,

If you want to do a musical tribute to Prince, other than former band mates of Prince, ask Janelle Monae, Alicia Keys, Jennifer Hudson, Andre 3000, Maceo, and Lenny Kravitz. That's the list.
If they can't do it, don't do one.

Dear Grammys

Prince deserves a two hour tribute show.

Please don't allow performers to IMPERSONATE Prince. NO IMPERSONATIONS. We need INTERPRETATIONS by other ARTISTS. Cover his range of musical influences.

Don't dress like him. Don't dance like him.

Use the range of excellent artists/musicians all the ones that have already been mentioned here in his bands and his mainstay crew, but then we're forgetting that Prince loved ROCK.

Broaden the scope & perspective and open the door for something amazing to happen - Stevie Nicks, Joan Jett, Heart, Lindsey Buckingham, Steven Tyler, Slash, Eddie VanHalen, hell even that country guy absolutely gave a heartbreaking version of Nothing Compares 2 U...pull some artists from other kinds of music that have some CHOPS. Dig into his catalogue and take the road less traveled.

I could also get with a full on alternative: Grace Jones Cyndi Lauper Lorde Florence Welch Lana DelRay

There's no shortage of actual talent. Please take your time and honor him properly.

If former band mates/associates can't do it, then screw the whole thing I reckon.

D'Angelo better always be a part of any tribute to Prince.

Damn right...

But I'd go one step further... The Revolution, The NPG, 3rdEyeGirl... the bands who used to play with him daily... how on earth could they not be involved?

While he's worked with a few mediocre vocalists in his day, he's also worked with Rosie Gaines, Shelby, Judith Hill, Andy Allo... all of whom are infinitely more talented than Madonna.

These are musicians and singers Prince respected, enjoyed, and worked with.

Well, I said other than former band mates. That goes without saying. And yes, add D'Angelo to that list.

I wish they got a mix of new artists and classics. I'm quite partial towards watching the Weeknd or Janelle play with The Revolution.

No. Bad idea. They can be guests, but if you're going to play Prince, then use his musicians.
Set aside for now how disrespectful it would be, leaving out The Time, Sheila, The Revolution and Andre (yes, fucking Andre, essentially his brother) Neto, Bland...etc. would be monumentally stupid. In this particular instance, the musicians used are AT LEAST as important as the vocalists.
