Sheila E and Mayte at the end with the guitar lowered.. This was a tribute done out of pure love and respect. I cried so much as the pain in my heart increased the tears burned down my face like fire.Hearing the music seeing a stage without Prince has left me with nothing but painful sadness it's hard to breathe it's just incredibly torturous to know he is really gone.💔💔💔💔💔💔💔I'm never getting over this.

:grouphug:

I know. . .the Tribute was so touching. It's hard to accept he is truly gone.

I'm with you. I don't think I will ever get over this loss

Does anyone have the complete lineup of who was on stage with Sheila? On my small screen, I spotted Jerome, Mayte, Liv, Shelby, Elisa, The Twinz, & Morris Hayes. Who else was in the band?

Not dead, not in prison, still funkin'...

Does love see color? Frankly, I dont' care whether P was black, white, red or purple. I believe P while he was saw color disparages, he was hoping we would be love and accept each other. I forget which video in the beginning where he says "finally, color blind....it's about time". Larry Graham was also in it. I doubt the heart sees color and hence his choice of women. As to the 70's look, he changed his looks, music and style every so many years like he did musicians....does it matter? Perhaps he was "guided" by a Higher Power in that direction. As other people have commented, I cant' seem to stay away from this site, latest P news, you tube, etc. I have a job, outside activities, etc. I never met the man but followed him through the years from the very beginning, albeit somewhat lacksadaisical. I too am beginning to wonder if there is something wrong with me.

Sheila's and PP members tribute was amazing and very loving. They put their all into it and showed their respect and hearts for P. Sheila and Mayte at the end....they looked beautiful and could still see the grief showing in their faces...it was palpable. The group did P way proud! I loved it. What a way to close the show. Sorry for the criticism that follows...JH is a good screamer...never did think screaming is the same as singing I think I may have misunderstood the speech given by Jesse Williams. GREAT show overall. Can't get over the Sheila E and crew tribute though. Thank you.

Prince dated Black women too, goodness.

Thank you for this post.

I think the rest of the people were from Sheila E's Band. A couple of the horn guys were not Sheila's guys I don't think.
Eddie M was on sax, Jerome Benton of course

I'm wondering the same, I saw a fuzzy upload on utube. Think I saw Eddie M. Greg Boyer & Kat Dyson

Also, tl;dr: You can't expect kids raised in a digital world to know a whole lot about older musicians unless they're where you can reach them. Basically, Princey missed the point when he didn't let himself be on the internet.

Totally agree! And even the non-teenagers who may know him, but had other things going on in their lives. He was left with a very loyal group, but it could have been much bigger and no less loyal really.

Princey wasn't a businessman. smile

This was hard to watch. So many feelings coming back up...
Did not watch it live, just watched the youtube tribute videos, wanted to listen to the presentations as well, though.

Miss Badu was amazing, love her, best song choice she could ever make. And the drum sound on that... nailed it!

Bilal... how come I have never heard of this guy? Wow. Loved his rendition of The Beautiful Ones, it was really good. Can anyone recommend some music of his for me?
Did not like Stevie Wonder at all, I'm sorry to say. Nor Janelle. There was something off, at least for me.

Not gonna comment on Purple Rain. At all. ARGH!
Now Maxwell was fantastic. Really was.

Cannot bring myself to watch Sheila E. I cried during Bilal and Maxwell, I know what's gonna happen when I watch Sheila E.
What happened to D'Angelo? Was it too much for him, I wonder?
Lenny Kravitz should have been there. The tribute needed a guitar solo and some rock and roll. But you can't please everyone, so there.
Lovely tribute.
Now I need to find the courage to watch the final segment...

I'm sure this might not get seen, and I've been searching for an answer and may have missed it, but:

Was there a specific reason why the women performers during the final performance were barefoot? headlp

Just curious, and I haven't seen it addressed anywhere yet (to my knowledge, anyway, feel free to point me in the right direction).

Thank you!~

That truely was AMAZING Shiela! Thank U. And what u did at the end holding his guitar up was perfection! U truely honored him and I can't imagine anyone doing it better. U really performed like him and had everything down and sliding on the stage like that too. Thank u.

He is Proud of all of u on that stage. It was so nice to have JB and Mayte there too. Remember that she was part of the NPG too. Wish could have had all of the Revolution and NPG members there. But if they are all getting together for the tribute in August then we will have to wait for that. If its still happening anyway. ???

The ending was perfection. Both of u holding the guitar up in the air and pointing up to him all of u on the stage. that was Righteous for our Righteous ONE!

I would have rather seen patti Labelle do Purple Rain.

And that one guy doing Beautiful ones....omg

Only Prince could do it....NOONE ELSE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It was just wierd without our Prince's screams and crawling on the floor.

Only PRINCE can do it right! It was just awkward to watch someone else do that.

Sheila could do it and did it closing the show though! She did it right!

Oh, boy, here we go ... Did anyone else think Prince's recent appearance from the natural hair (Afro-style) to the tunics and chains had him resembling African-American men of the 70s? It was as if he wanted to leave the image he had cultivated behind in favor of what he was comfortable with in the 70s as he started his career. But then there were the complaints that his women were usually light-skinned - where were the darker-skinned women in his life? I am white, and I never thought of him as a black artist. In fact, I never thought of him in terms of color. He always said he was "old school," loving the James Brown School of Entertainment. Or, as in a quip about Madonna (paraphrasing) that he could sing and dance at the same time. But his color never entered into it for me.

Again people totally miss the point. If I love you then I am going to love all aspects of who you are including your physical appearance. I wouldn't feel the need to blind myself to a part of you in order to be able to accept you. I realize that you mean well but that is exactly how such a platitude comes off to people of color.

In other words, it is not complementary for me to say that in order to accept you I must pretend not to notice that you are white. lol Why is your white skin something I have to deny? That is exactly like somebody saying to a woman..."I don't notice your gender," or saying to an elder or a baby, "I don't see age".

Obviously Prince was a black artist. Bruce Springsteen is white. I don't see the colour of either of them, I see two artists and human beings. That's what true colour-blindness is.

I'm not denying their colour, it's just no more important to me than the colour of their hair or whatever else you could point to.

My family is mixed, but I am white. I dated a black man for a long time in the mid-80s. So what? I have friends of all colours. When I lived in Los Angeles for a while I was hanging out with only blacks and Hispanics. It was coincidence, but I felt more at home in the US black culture than the white. It's not about the colour of your skin. It's about the colour of your heart and mine is purple. 8-)

Prince definitely embraced his blackness, especially in his latest look. And I prefer that to all his other looks. But it would surprise me if he wasn't colour-blind like I just described. His personal preferences when it comes to women aside.

I teared up a few times. A few were hits, a few misses, but I walked away thinking that Sheila E really needs to front The Revolution and hit the road. Continue the celebration, yo, that felt really good and I can't believe I am going to use this word but it felt like one of the most authentic performances of all the tributes I've seen so far. For, um, obvious reasons smile. But I think it was Sheila's performance that really captured that feeling for me. She embodied, as well as one can, Prince's frontperson spirit animal.

AMEN!!!

Singing 'I Wanna Be Your Lover' in elementary school was too much fun!

What a sweet tribute. A Vegas style tribute but nice. Prince just adds something unique. his loss is the hole in our ozone. Our breathing has a catch now. The atmosphere is a bit more polluted.

I think it may be time to put PR to rest.

I just saw the performances now and I was extremely blown away by Sheila E.'s performance... WOW!

Janelle Monae was also fantastic... As were all the other tributes. Maxwell was dope.

I really was not expecting the performances to be this fantastic and for them to do so many Prince songs, including songs you wouldn't expect like "Delirious," "Housequake," "Erotic City," "America"...

Major respect to all the performers and to BET for putting on an outstanding tribute to Prince.

Also awesome to see Mayte, Jerome, The Twinz, Mr. Hayes, and many others in Sheila's performance.

Anyone who has not seen it... It is "MUST SEE" for all Prince fans... ESPECIALLY Sheila E. and Janelle Monae's performances.
