Thanks Tyka. What an awful time this must be for them. August is at least some breathing space for all of us.

Hi Y'all,

U know I only come on here when I have sumthin' ta say...So Let me make myself VERY CLEAR! I nor my brother's remains will be present at any Memorial or Funeral services, until the families Memorial/Funeral/Tribute.

Please Don't misunderstand...The grief process is a unique experience to each individual and Therefore I support any and all Memorials or Funerals that have happened and/or are being planned...However I will Not be in attendance, because I feel that once…is enough.

My brother was a Very Private man and so a Funeral had been planned for Saturday April 23rd. But on the evening of Friday April 22nd while we were in the process of inviting a small group of family and friends, those Funeral plans had to be sadly aborted. With the help of the Paisley Park staff (because some friends had already flown into town) we held an intimate gathering due to that cancelation, however it was Not a Funeral.

Also because there are reports floating around…I unfortunately want to address this issue:

To my knowledge…No One in my family has fought about anything, and least of all me…but I must admit I think it's funny that I’m the one they say, "Stormed out..." or that “We are at war” Me? Us? “Really? Where was I when all that happened?”

Matthew 12:25 says that "Every city or household divided against itself will Not Stand. "and because All of US were raised in the cherch, we know This All 2 Well...so Please don’t believe everything u read or get it twisted...We will…“Let Patience Have Its Perfect Work” James 1:4…and remain United!

So with All of that being said…

Once again I AM Releasing this statement for Those of U Who Would like to Celebrate Our Prince together with his family and have the opportunity to say farewell...
“We would like everyone to know that, contrary to previous and current reports, there has been no memorial, funeral or tribute service for Prince that was organized or authorized by the family or Paisley Park representatives. Together, the family is planning an official memorial service and public event to take place in the near future. Prince and his music influenced so many people that we feel inspired to celebrate his life and legacy in just the right way. We appreciate the public’s patience and have been comforted by your outpouring of love, support and condolences. We look forward to sharing with the world this celebration of, and farewell to, our Prince. Details will be coming soon.”

Update: The proposed plan is to have our Memorial/Funeral/Tribute in August more updates soon...

To GOD Be The Glory!

Amen.

I'm sorry but I don't think it's her place to say which ones are "authorized" and which ones aren't. All she had to do was say they will have one for the fans in August and leave it at that. Mayte, the mother of his son, and Mani didn't need her permission, her "ok", or approval to have a private memorial and it's not any more/less "official" because Tyka signs off or whatever... Omar was even at the memorial, lots of close friends were there... more than the memorial at PP just days after his passing.

If Prince was still married to mayte or Mani yes it would be official, but he wasn't. Tyka is his next of kin legally so she has every right to organise an official funeral. I don't think she's trying to alienate anyone but just saying there will only be ONE official memorial for friends and family soon. BTW. .the private memorial with wall to wall celebrities, what about the fans? They didn't get a second thought at this memorial. So for me this was a held by celebrities for celebrities and that's it. [Edited 5/13/16 11:35am]

Thank you Tyka Nelson for setting the record straight. And I agree with her. Once is enough. I could not imagine being expected to sit through multiple services, remembrances, etc... for someone that i was incredibly close to or a relative. Once is enough, especially so soon.

My sister passed in 2009, and I was in charge of the funeral arrangements. My mom and I decided that we wanted the viewing/funeral to be 1 day, and a "short" day at that. 8am-3pm.

My sister had literally hundreds of friends, and another few dozen of close coworkers. The funeral home was standing room only, and later the director said it was one of the biggest funeral processions he'd ever witnessed.

There were still quite a few people who didn't get to attend (because it was one day and early) but we did what we thought was best. We did not have a Day 02 in us.

Now, imagine how it would be for Prince's family?

So he passes in April, but gets an August memorial? eek As his sister I can respect her statement, but something about that just seems wrong to me. I send them my prayers though.

We can't keep second guessing though. This woman has a court case to get through and little resources to do it with. She did not become rich overnight or anything and it might be a while before she sees a dime.

I would imagine that the reason she wasn't able to do what she wanted after the cremation was due to lack of funds, not to mention PP probably isn't accessible except for that one room where they held the wake. Since she has said it wasn't a formal funeral it was more like a wake.

It will probably take until August to raise the funds to put together something that we can all be a part of. Remember that George Lopez had to lend them $$ just to get to this point.

Sending prayers is a good idea.

Exactly. When my grandmother died it was on a wednesday or thursday i believe and her funeral was held that following Monday. and it would have been sooner had we been able to get things prepared in time. Some folks were not able to fly in from downsouth but they sent their regards. It was what it was. We werent going to drag it out any longer or do multiple days. our funeral and viewing were all a 1 and done... The quickness that they handled things really is not abnormal.

You're reading way too much into this. The quote where she uses the word "authorized" was an official statement released a week or so ago, and I think the point of that statement was soley to say that the gathering they did on the Friday afterward, that had been reported by the stupid media as the official memorial service, was simply a gathering that happened, but it wasn't the family's actual plan for a memorial... I think in response to concerns that maybe that was all they were going to do. That statement was released before any other memorials or gathering had even started taking shape. As she says, she supports all gatherings and acknowledges that everyone grieves in different ways...

Hmm I'm not buying it wasn't the official family funeral. They had funeral type flowers in big pots that they brought out and handed to the fans that were around.

To me it sounds like "fans" are giving her shit because the fans haven't had a way to pay respects but that's not even true. There have been tributes and memorials all over the place. Several clubs where I live had Prince parties etc.

Tyka, if you're reading this THROW A PURPLE PARTY !! Not a funeral. You already did that and those of us who are reasonable understand that.

Tyka's Facebook post says a funeral WAS planned for Saturday, April 23 but had to be "aborted". There must have been a very good reason why it had to be cancelled, as friends had already flown in to attend it.

I can only begin to imagine what that family are going through with all the media attention and speculation....I hope they continue to stand united as family should!

Get used to it people. Prince's legacy will be divided into warring factions, who all feel as though they are doing the right thing, more or less by him. It's human nature and most of these 'us vs them' feuds were taking place when he was alive. Hopefully the catalog/vault stays intact and under one authority.

Please no offense, maybe off topic here, anyway:

I am worried that Tyka will screw up the legacy of the vaults (the unreleased music).

I can't tell why I am so worried about that, but she just doesn't seem like a person who is able to make the right decisions:

I wish she will prove me wrong. I am still worried that she and the people surrounded her will screw everything up.... I fear the vaults will remain locked, unreleased.... sad

Dreaming, if only the fans could have some influence....

Damn I am really worried about the "future" speaking about those vaults..........

Honestly, I feel the remark about "I support any and all Memorials or Funerals", followed up by no event being "authorized by the family or Paisley Park" is just a little contradictory and unnecessary.

So where does this leave this proposed Jehovahs Witness funeral/memorial slated for this Sunday then?? Will this still go ahead??

Authorized=\=forbidden

I think she's saying that all the others are not the "official" one and they (Tyka, PP reps) aren't organising them.

I see where she's coming from. Just look at some of the posts over the LA memorial speculating as to why she wasn't there etc...

It may well be this Sunday is the "official" funeral and the memorial to include his fans will be held in August. But I'm guessing.

I just hope whenever his "official" funeral takes place it doesn't turn into a media circus.

I don't understand why anyone has a problem with the intimate... Let's call it, gathering, on Saturday. Why do people need a "funeral"- did people really want to view a dead Prince? (Sorry I hate saying it too) I'm guessing the amount of time he was gone already would have made any viewing unbearable anyway. I'm cool with there having been no big deal like that. I feel really bad she's been put in a place to defend that. The thing they are planning for August should be an amazing dance party. Music, good food, fun. A parade, not a funeral procession. He only wants to see us laughing in the purple rain... If they can pull off actual purple rain, that would be the most awesome thing ever.

He was cremated, there would be/was no body

Yes, that doesn't sit right with me either. Where are his cremains currently? Sitting in her home next to a bag of flaming hot cheetos?

I can understand putting on a show for his fans, and that's exactly what the Auguest event sounds like, but his remains should be put in their final resting place now, if they haven't already. I sincerely hope she's nothinking they would have the ashes at the event in August... that would just be a tacky spectacle.

I know, it still does for me

I understand what this situation is like that there is a lot more to handle before a 'funeral' with the ashes of Prince can actually happen.

But I understand why people have funerals within at least 1-2 weeks after the passing of someone, because you need that part over, so you can begin the healing process.

I think the first unfortunate bit was mentioning the location of the remains in the original FB post. I know I regretted reading it. Sounded like any funeral won't be official til they bring out his cremains. But I understand the lapse. Love and prayers to the family.

These selfish and insensitive comments toward Prince's family are appalling. We are not owed anything by these people. However long it takes them to get through this they should have our support unless they are PROVEN unworthy of it. Not from speculation, rumors and gossip.
