The videos that have been appearing on YouTube of Prince apparently "throwing shade" have been making me laugh.

... and I just watched again the 2010 BET Awards Tribute... So funny! Him and Shelby spend most of it laughing at the bad cover versions, then trying to cover it up by clapping and trying to take it seriously.

Those videos are so stupid. The only real shade he threw during that 2010 BET thing was at Miguel (edit: oops) Trey Songz, who spontaneously broke into "Purple Rain" 15 minutes before. It's made to look like Prince threw shade at Alicia Keys, but he was more reacting to a pregnant woman hopping on top of a piano. Some of the other stuff is iffy at best.

I thought that was Trey Songz, not Miguel. You should have seen the shitstorm here (on the org ) when he broke into that.

You're right, it was. I knew that wasn't right when I typed it. And he deserved the shit storm.

I never even heard of this whole "shade" thing until a couple of P videos on Youtube. (Yes I'm old). Is this a fairly new thing or from some hip hop song or what.

It's a popular term nowadays. There's also a phrase that goes "No tea, no shade" which basically means I'm not trying to offend you, but this is how it really is. Shade is basically talking shit Most of the time (depending on the situation) it's lighthearted and fun.
