1-800-NEW-FUNK and O(+> Era Productivity

Pulled out this disc for the first time in several years a few days ago.

Struck me in listening this morning that in 1993-94 he had LOTS of irons in the fire. In addition to Glam Slam Ulysses, The Beautiful Experience, The Undertaker, Come, TGE, early version of Chaos and Disorder and other aborted projects (Tora Tora Experience, Heart, The Dawn, etc.) this compilation would account for at least another 8 potential studio albums, only half of which (George Clinton's HMSMF, Mayte's COTS, Mavis Staples' The Voice and NPG's Goldn***a) were ever released.

MPLS (The Crayons) - MPLS
George Clinton - Hey Man... Smell My Finger
Nona Gaye
Mayte - Children of the Sun

NPG - Goldn***a
Margie Cox - MC Flash

Mavis Staples - The Voice

Madhouse - 24

MESSAGE 2 A FRIEND

"This compilation reflects the 2 years of hard work and pain endured by the 'parents of these children'. It's been said before, but songs really are like children and the ones contained herein were left 2 die until now. My eternal gratitutde goes out 2 everyone at NPG records 4 giving these children a home. Experience the beautiful." prince

There was a lot of A-Grade material at this time.

It's almost funny to look at the various versions of Come/Gold - Prince deliberately holding back all the more commercial songs for the album WB didn't want.

I'm not familiar with most of the other albums, but Mayte's Children of the sun has some really good songs on it... Ain't no place, However Much, Brick House, the alternate "Beautiful Boy". I'd love to hear the Prince version of the album.
