Looking at the program this seems to have been the kind of classy, respectful memorial service Prince deserved (contrary to the rushed cremation and service by Tyka&"family" within 36 hours after his death..smh).

Also i guess very neccessary for some of his longtime associates (like Andre Cymone) that couldn't make it/weren't invited to the first memorial to be able to grief, mourn and honor.

Good for them!

These women loved Prince! Mayte carried his child! This was their way of honoring him. Nothing wrong with it and I don't understand why some are bothered by it. Just because you divorce someone doesn't mean you stop caring or loving the person. Just because you hadn't talked or seen the person for years doesn't mean you are not touched in some way by their death. We, as fans, are hurting. We were crushed by his death and we honor his memory by listening to his music, watching videos, looking at photos etc...

Must be weird for Eric Benet on a lot of levels.

Benet is pleased as punch to have anything that was related with Prince. His falsetto, ex-wife, what have you.

I mean it was nice of them to do a memorial. I think reaching out to his actual family, would have been the respectful thing to do, even if they denied the invitation. I could understand his family members trying to protect their brother from those who probably weren't around as his friends, in the last 2 or 3 years of his life, and only showing their faces now.

agreed

Did you all even click on the thread? lol
Prince's step brother was there. which probably meant the family was invited.
Why speculate that they didn't reach out to his siblings. And what if they didn't? Did they have too?

Do we know that they did not?

I mean people can and will have all kinds of memorials, saying goodbye together to someone they loved and worked with. I don't think the siblings have to be there. They already had one in Minneapolis.

And from what I understand Prince and his siblings weren't actually around either. Tyka just in the last few years after getting cleaned up I think.

Mr. Hayes was on the list as one of the speakers. Looks like it was a honorable and beautiful memorial. Good to see Wendy, Susannah and Bobby Z there also.

Oh for goodness sakes, calm down, had you took the time to scroll down you would have known that other others clarified that info for me. And again, no fan really knows what kind of relationship he had with his siblings. Contrary to all the rumors or how we feel about their relationship, they are still his family and they lost their brother. All we can do as fans is speculate.

Anyway thanks to the orgers who clarified the info. for me.

They must have reached out in some way, as Prince's brother Omarr spoke at the service...

So Omar was invited to the LA service? Interesting.

Probably the whole family members were, but only Omarr accepted or went as a representative of the family.

Thanks. Nice that he was part of the program. I'm sure the family is still going through a lot with the media stuff as well.

The child's name was never "Boy Gregory". Mayte checked into the hospital as "Mrs Gregory" and the hospital listed the baby's name on the death certificate as "Boy" to indicate the child was a boy with no given name, but surname "Gregory". Kinda like saying "John Doe".

Thanks for the clarification. It means prince in Arabic, so he was clearly named after his father. May they both continue to rest in peace.

IMO. Maybe this was good for his celebrity friends (it provides them with a place to grieve together). This memorial was for Prince's celebrity friends (old and new) the Beverly Hills way. It was so private that TMZ knew about and annouced it (really).

Tyke's memorial was for Prince Roger Nelson (the brother/family member/person who grew up and lived in Minneapolis). It was handled the way Mr. Nelson would have preferred (IMO). As you all know, when someone in the family passes away, people start coming around (out the swamps and forest) and the decedent wouldn't have given them time of day in the present. They are so mournful and sad, and forgetful about the fake ass snake in the grass they really are. But as family members, we shake their hands, give hugs, feed them and can't wait for their ass to leave.

Nelson Family stay strong because the fireworks are beginning, the snakes are surfacing, and don't trust anyone but yourself. Stick together.

This is so touching - that they kept his name to themselves. It's comforting to know he can rest and be with his son.

Ahmir is a beautiful name.

I think all this shows the regard Prince's ladies had for him - sometimes relationships don't work out but love and respect can live on in many forms.

I do wonder if he was named Amir or Ahmir, then again it's none of my business, and it was very kind of Mayte to share this information when she had no need to. My heart goes out to her.
