She did an excellent speech at the MTV Video Awards when Michael died.I expect her Prince speech will be excellent as well.

On twitter she said:

"Don't Reign on my Parade! β˜‚β˜”οΈ. This is not a Love Song πŸ’œπŸ‘‘!!"

(don't know if you can see the emoticons but there's a purple heart an a crown.)

Will she do Love Song?

Did not see that. When I read "tribute" I immediately thought of a show like Gaga's, not a speech. A speech would make more sense to me, then.

"you can't please everybody"....Exactly. The days on the org have changed..In the past (to many orgers), Madonna could do wrong. If you made even the smallest bit of criticism towards her, it was on. Other orgers were ready to flame and hurl rocks. They were both huge in the 80's and they were peers (even though they busted on each other in the media). Hell, they almost decided to tour together a few years ago. The last time I watched the Billboards show was when our boy jammed with 3RD EYE GIRL...I usually don't watch the show. But I will check out her speech/tribute.

As much as I don't care for Madonna, she is from the same era and they at least worked together. Still would've been cool if they chose somebody like D'Angelo or Questlove.

I'm disappointed. In my opinion, I just can't see it. A legendary guitarist deserves better.
Genius is born, not made. Prince is a Genius. No question. RIP Legend.

I would rather them have a performance by Janelle Monae, D'Angelo and Van Hunt with The Revolution acting as a backing band. What is Madonna going to do? We know she can't sing. Is she going to mime to a dance remix of Purple Rain? Or give a speech about how SHE has been affected by all of this?

I love Madonna. She is more well-meaning and a better performer than people give her credit for. I think she will do a good job honoring Prince.

It will be a fantastic tribute.Madonna and Prince go way back and they have a lot in common. She is a huge fan and was a friend too.Let's wait and see before we start criticizing her.

Instead of *predicting* what she will do,why not just wait and see before you start attacking her? rolleyes

She did a very beautiful speech about Michael. I think it's quite poignant that it's Madonna, as it was MJ, Prince and Madonna who were lumped together as the major icons of popular music in their eras, and now she's the only one remaining... it seems appropriate that she would be a part of a mainstream tribute to Prince.

i kinda wish any Prince tribute would just be a montage of his performances. I honestly cannot stand covers of his music in that way. It was fun if an artist did it at a show or something while he was around, like a one off thing... but now I just don't want to see anyone but Prince doing Prince because NO BODY can do Prince like Prince.

If any of his bands perform they should just do instrumentals and backing vocals without his God or guitar... That is what it sounds like when the doves cry. That would be a tribute... If everyone just shut up and listened to the silence the world has without him.

It would be sad but totally capture the essence of what we have lost.

God... this is the worst. He should still be here and we shouldn't be having this conversation.
Surprise, surprise.
Another treat. Another trick.

Probably cathartic though. It's really good to cry and maybe that's all we need- one good simultaneous cleansing cry.

I just have moments here and there of sobbing. I stop myself but feel I could go on for days.
Surprise, surprise.
