Gene Simmons on Prince

http://www.blabbermouth.net/news/gene-simmons-on-prince-how-pathetic-that-he-killed-himself/

I think he sounds like a real prick, but hey, I take everything with a pinch of salt these days and doubt everything that comes out in the press. Just recently I saw him talking on TV about Prince and the guy had nothing but high praise for him, so I don't know where this is coming from. Probably made up trash?
For one, the toxicology report is not out, so he does not know what was the cause of death. Unless he's going by whatever rumour is circulating amongst the music world. Secondly, wasn't his son battling a pill addiction/dependency recently?

You would expect them to know better and not only show some respect but also wait for the toxicology report before saying stuff like this.

gene simmons has always been an odd fellow....at times caring and sensitive (charities etc) and at times a colossal prick, often unable to admit musical talent existed in other besides himself. he did say some nice things about lady gaga a while back.

i would like to see him on video talking about prince, tone of voice, body language etc. print quotes i don't always trust.

as to the comparison between the raw talent of simmons and prince, well there really is no need to go there...

I watched him recently talk about Prince. Seems to totally contradict his arrogance here, but who's to say this was not taken out of context? Anything goes to sell magazines, I guess.

thanks, amazing clip. one of the reasons i always liked gene simmons despite his sometimes arrogant presentation is his searing intellect and ability to get into the analytical weeds at times. not many in public life do that, and very few in music do that. his analysis of prince i thought was spot on and among the most complimentary i have ever seen him.well done, gene.

I totally agree, that's why it did not make sense when I came across the article. I found his assessment of Prince on TV very accurate and complimentary.

take his bs with a pinch of salt.A prime example of how words can get twisted is that Simmons said Clapton said in a recent interiew Prince was the greatest guitarist..That is an old story.

And he says Prince showed up everyone when he was called on stage by james brown? That is a performance by all accounts prince wants to forget.

Simmons chats shite

So. He's pissy because Kiss - the boy band group isn't in the RRH of F? He has no idea what tragedy or pathetic is.

video almost always rules over print quotes. not that he couldn't be conflicted, but i will hold on to this gene memory over all the others

Absolutely. That is an old story about Clapton that has been circulating on FB recently and the show with James Brown is not exactly a moment of great artistry by Prince. Besides, apparently it was MJ that asked JB to call Prince on stage. Also, he mentions the guitar playing in the Harrison tribute, which made me think he probably just been watching all this stuff recently on youtube (like many of us are doing to help us mourn) and just mentioned everything that came to mind.
Still, his words on Prince are great.

Gene Simmons will say anything to keep his name out there, so he can pretend to relevant somehow. Nothing to see here. Ted Nugent did the same thing when Kurt Kobain died.

Gene Simmons is always popping up in the media, giving his "opinion" about something. He needs to keep his mouth shut because nobody cares what he thinks.Such a shame that Prince is gone while this old,attention-seeking pig is still roaming the earth disbelief

"I think Prince was heads, hands and feet above all the rest of them," he said. "I thought he left [Michael] Jackson in the dust. Prince was way beyond that."

That's the important part of his quote.

Van Halen is my fave band (Prince my fave artist), and back in the beginning Gene tried to get Edward away from the band but DLR was onto his shit way early. Gene is irrelevant, don't pay any attention to him. He wouldn't know a legend if it bit him in the ass. Christ, even Stanley agrees.

Gene is a sad, old bitter man. He's always giving his unwanted opinions. I guess it's the only way he can get attention these days.

Sad.

But if David Bowie chose to smoke all those years then got cancer from that, wouldn't Gene be contridcting himself? He said it's a real sickness or disease but you choose to smoke..... no disrepsect to Bowie of course but ehh Gene, he seems to be a prick. But at the end of the day Prince's milestones and musical influence>>>anything KISS has ever done tbh....fuck em.

Telling Gene Simmon to stfu is exactly what his own best friend Paul Stanley was implying via Twitter:
