Music Available on Tidal

Does anyone know why certain albums aren't available on Tidal? The Rainbow Children, Rave In2/Un2 The Joy Fantastic, New Power Soul, The Gold Experience, Diamonds and Pearls, etc...but then stuff that I wouldn't necessarily expect to be there IS there, like Chocolate Invasion, The Truth, C-Note, The Slaughterhouse, etc...

Is there like a legal reason for this, that anyone knows of, or is this just how Prince chose to curate things?

I don't see any possible legal reason for this given the diversity of labels involved, but licencing can sometimes be so complicated, who knows...

Some mentioned are, you need to search for Prince and the NPG, not Prince to get D&P for example

Ahh, that's interesting. Because I did notice, for example, that Around the World in a Day is listed under Prince and the Revolution, and the same is the case for Parade now that I think of it. But then, Purple Rain and 1999 are listed under Prince, and technically those are Revolution albums as well.

IDK, I hope that this is one of the things that his estate clears up because frankly, most people would end up missing those albums because they wouldn't know to search for alternative names.

Many of the NPG albums are out of print. And some of the WB's are also.

New Power Soul

Exodus

The Rainbow Children (which was being distributed by Redline which was owned by Best Buy but is long gone)

The Gold Experience is out of print by WB

Chaos and Disorder is also out of print

not sure on Diamonds and Pearls though that should still be out there as is the Symbol album just hard to find.

RAVE was a one off with Arista and that is gone at this point they were distributing for him and printing had ceased awhile back, the same goes for Musicology. So many that are Out of Print are also not being available digital either.

Searching Prince and the NPG gives up the Love Symbol Album and Diamonds and Pearls, but still no New Power Soul or even Exodous for that matter.

Maybe it IS a licensing thing, which still seems odd because as far as I knew Prince owned his publishing the entire time, he just didn't previously own his masters. Very weird.

That's still weird to me though, I don't understand why something that is out of print physically would then be unavailable digitally. Musicology is there. I mean hell there are records on here that weren't in print physically, such as Slaughterhouse. The Vault, Old Friends 4 Sale is there and I can't imagine that still being in print.

D&P and Love Symbol are there, btw, just not directly under Prince.

There are a lot of things like that with many artists, not being in print either way, not sure why, it may in turn have something to do with the accounting for sales for a title, a certain title might just be closed off from accounting and that is it. I would think GOLD would be something he'd still want in print but I think that whole era with "come" and "gold" and "chaos" left a bad taste in WB mouth and probably his that is being held, or was very limited to what could be produced.

Right. I mean it absolutely makes sense on one level, but then Come is available and Gold Experience isn't lol. The Vault is available, but Rave in2/un2 isn't. Emancipation is available, but Crystal Ball isn't. It's all very strange. Possible accounting issues makes sense, on some level. Though, I would think that would mostly be due to the publishing and I was always under the impression that he controlled his publishing, just not his masters.

I'm just going to stop trying to understand it and be happy that what is available IS available, particularly the NPGMC stuff. Cause I wasn't around when all that stuff was initially being released, and while I'd been able to download chunks of it here and there in the early 2gs, I knew that I was definitely missing stuff.

Hopefully the AHDIO shows get up eventually too.
