Thank God, he did it his way...

I was thinking... if he would have listened to WB all those years, we would probably only have 10 or 11 albums by Prince. Thanks to him pushing to release more, he has left us with an amazing catalog of music. For that, I am thankful!
Amen?

When Prince fought for his rights as a musician, it changed the game for every artist.
He may have lost a lot of the mainstream public with his 90s and early 2000s albums, but I personally think that was one of his most creative periods.
Albums like emancipation, come, Xpectation and even N.E.W.S. were all great in their own right.

But it was more than just that though, WB didn't want around the world in a day to be released, nor lovesexy (because the black album was what they expected). Dirty Mind was different to his first two R&B albums.
Prince did it his way, and because of that, he has a legacy unparalleled in music.
I think he would have only had three albums if he didn't push for his creative freedom. (He was on a 3 album contract and it took dirty mind to change the game).

I'm not sure that's true... Granted, there would probably have been fewer triple-disc sets but we already had 15 albums from Prince by the time he got into a fight with the label. WB would have been happy to release a new album every year, they just expected Prince to properly promote in return for their investment. Prince could have gone an entirely different way with his fight and simply re-negotiated for them in the next contract, imo.
