It was pretty stellar. It was during the piano portion of the show, so no full band on it. But still - 30+ years later, and he pulled that one out? LORDT!

He played it in the first concert on the Hit And Run Part II tour in Birmingham on 15th May 2014.

I was there. RIGHT at the front. I had gotten there at like, midday. Crazy early. And security took us all aside and put us in a different section, and then let us into the venue like an hour before anyone else so we'd be at the front.

When he pulled out "Electric Intercourse" for the first time since 1983, my jaw hit the floor.

I'll never, ever, forget that moment. My eyes must have looked like saucers.

What an amazingly beautiful rendition. And I love how he´s kept it very close to the 1983 version.

Such a wonderful moment in time...only ruined by those people who are constantly talking and won´t shut up.

I had heard an audience recording of this before but to actually see and hear him play it makes me want to have a soundboard recording of this show. Just so I don´t have to hear those in the audience who obviously were not aware of what a magical moment they were witnessing.

Rude idiots.

Must have been a great moment for those who were there.

Just goes to show you he never lost his magic even in his last years.

Like extraloveable, it must have been planned for what eventually became the Hitnrun series. I wonder if he's already recorded an updated Electric Intercourse for Phase Three.

I was at the show. Some of you might remember I was giving a live feed through to the org concert thread. I don't think many people believed me when I said he had dropped 'Electric' on us. One of my favourite gig memories.

I'm fairly certain that he had a reworked-for-release version in the Vault for Phase Three. Here's to hoping we get the Purple Rain version first.

That's really cool to see, weirdly it doesn't look much like how I remember it but I guess it wouldn't considering I was standing quite near the front and so had a very different vantage point. The great audience recording I have of the concert doesn't have the annoying chatter, at least it doesn't on this song, I think the taper's friend might occasionally make comments during parts of the recording but thankfully that's mostly in between songs.

Yeah there's a really good audience recording circulating, bizarrely the sound on that is clearer than it was at the gig I'm really happy I was there to witness what I guess was a historic moment, although I hadn't listened to the original version for a while so at first I wasn't quite sure what he was playing, but when it finally dawned on me it was a true "holy shit" moment. I kept on glancing at the middle aged guy standing next to me who looked like a bit of a Prince nerd to see if the realisation of what was going on had dawned on him as well but alas he didn't appear to I think a lot of us speculated at the time that Prince had performed it as the studio version was going to be included in the remastered Purple Rain, but obviously that never came to pass so we'll never know. I got there literally just before midday. Around 11.50 or so and there was maybe 20 people there already. Luckily the weather was glorious and my buddy Charlie was there too so we just hung out on the grass outside the venue for hours. By the time about 100 people got there, the security guys took us all aside and made a special announcement saying that they'd number us, we needed to meet at a specific place in a few hours, and they'd let us in before anyone else. It was awesome! So we got in right to the front. When he hit the first few notes of "Electric Intercourse" it was just like RaspberryGirlFriend said, it took a few seconds to dawn and then it was just "WHHHHHHHOOOOOOAAAAAAAAA!!!!!"

I only saw the video recently but I always thought that it might sound better, more ethereal, without the Intercourse bit... And it's not really a bad word that would need censoring!

I agree. The use of the word "intercourse" always sounded a bit odd to me, especially in such a beautful song. But to just completely ignore those three syllables is also a bit odd now that we´re used to it. It would be nice if there´s a version that he´s more comfortable with that replaces intercourse with some other three syllables.

It´s a great song. I understand why it was replaced by The Beautiful Ones , which is in my opinion a far superior song but I´d still love to have a studio version of Electric Intercourse.

Those who were there definitely witnessed a truly magical moment in Prince history.
