It will always amaze me how Prince progressed in just 2 years..
From " dirty mind to "1999"..
I think he became A legend starting from 1980..
He knew where to musically..
It really only took him 4 years to find his own sound..

His first sound was bordering on Disco/Funk. But yeah I agree he pivoted dramatically with 1999.

The Linndrum machine and the way he used it helped him to create That sound.

I'm sure P, Lisa and Dr. Fink were digging and absorbing the sounds of Kraftwerk, Art Of Noise and Gary Numan in the early 80's. They took the best parts from that and made it their own sound.
