Myself and Public enemy haven’t consulted with each other about our christo-theologically supportable 'rejection of the world’ policy or anything, we just both happen to have made the same life choice at the same time and it seems accidentally, to have held up some mirror to Arsenio, in which he sees his the dishonesty of his soul regarding matters of christianity.

He’s looking me up and down all the time when we’re inside the house as if I’d shat on Eddie Murphy's mother’s kitchen floor, in front of the President. He’s tut-tutting to himself and pacing about doing that same fingering and thumbing of the imaginary beard which Prince had done. It’s like a habit with these guys, because they can’t actually grow a beard. In fact, mine is better. They can only grow a Dorian Grey.
Eddie’s is a nice house. Looks like someone actually lives there. Dark, but in a warm, nice way. Not like Prince’s house. There's warm low yellow lights, and a mezzanine, which I think has blue light in it but I don’t know for certain because my eyesight is bleary from that far away. There’s people chatting and dancing gently. Its a party. Music not too loud, you can still talk.
The mezzanine gives the room a ‘security at the airport’ feeling. Like when you walk in Heathrow to go to Ireland and there’s police with guns and dogs patrolling above. Only here at Eddie’s house, there isn’t anyone patrolling. There’s just doors opening and closing. Other parts of the party. People vanishing upstairs or wandering back down, laughing and talking.
The pretty lady in the yellow sweater doesn’t really love the guy who’s hand she's holding. Her head keeps searching the room for ‘Mr right’. She’s trying to get her hand out of Mr Wrong’s so no one will think she's attached. You can’t win a woman you principally want because she’s beautiful unless you’ve earned literally zillions of dollars by legal means. She and I can both tell he's grasping at straws. We smirk.
Something about the evening starts to remind me of the night in An Grianan when I was fourteen and the Fureys played, and I first heard the Lonesome Boatman.
I’m sipping my soda. The lights and the music are so nice. I haven’t been in a house that felt like a home since I set foot in Los Angeles. This is the first. After a while I notice everyone but me has vanished upstairs. I can’t think why for ages, but then the penny drops. They’re watching the Grammys.
Arse was bitching at me earlier about smoking weed (as if he isn’t off his rocker himself, on some such), so I take everyone's disappearance as an opportunity to nip out to the garden for for a one-skinner.
Turns out I win the Grammy. I don’t even know what its for actually. I don’t know the category. But my winning has really pissed Arsenio off. The man is very high strung.
I dunno what the fuck is wrong with him. ‘Comes down the stairs in a temper to tell me, in a tone which implies that this time I’ve shat on Eddie’s bed. He’s manic.
‘Looks to me like he’s on something. He’s high as a kite in a hurricane. Seems like he’s suddenly nine feet longer than he was earlier. Waving his arms about and all.
Even if I hadn’t been too shocked by his behaviour to talk, I wouldn’t have known what to say. So I just said nothing.
Things calm down and he wanders off upstairs again. I’m gathering my things about half an hour later to leave, thinking I’ll get a cab, when he comes down, suddenly all smiles. ‘Produces from his jacket pocket, a splif. ‘Says wouldn’t I like to stay for a little while longer and smoke it with him.
I think “Oh, ok. He’s come to his senses. He’s realised what a total knob-head he’s been all night and wants to make friends. So down I put my things and we go outside and he lights the splif. Seems like he doesn’t want any himself. Every time I offer it he says “Nah”. I’m wondering how come he’s being so quiet and just smiling at me, fingering his chin.
Soon I realise why. There’s something in the splif that isn’t marijuana. I don’t know what. I never had it before nor since. Its so hard to describe. Its like if I hadn’t had a stronger mind I wouldn’t have known what I was doing. Its like ‘Me’ went very far into the back of my mind and something else took over the rest.
Everything inside me and outside me was undulating.
Suddenly he’s laughing. An “Aha! You’re not so tough now” laugh. My body is melting into a dead weight, trying to pull me to the floor. His smile looks like the wolf in Grandmas’s bonnet.
I know what he’s done. But I don’t let him know I know. He doesn’t know I don’t drink alcohol. Something tells me if I was drunk right now I’d be passed out cold. But I’m sober. At least, the ‘me’ at the back corner of my mind is sober. Enough to make him get me to his limo and take me home.

Only Northern Ireland is part of the U.K. The U.K. is Great Britain and Northern Ireland. Great Britain is England, Scotland, and Wales. And Sinead is southern Irish. It's the same island, but a different country - Ireland. She's not our fault. I don't know if the county of Dublin has an extradition treaty with California. If so, they should arrest Bono too, for crimes against patronising humanity. But honestly... Someone needs to talk to her, and wrestle away her computer/tablet/phone from her. I feel that there's some truth to her stories too. That's not to say that I completely believe her - the events have possibly become wildly exaggerated in her mind over time.
