The early to mid 90s is the era that made me more than a passing Prince fan. Outside of PR, the Symbol Album is my favorite Prince Album, period. I love everything from 91- to around 96ish.

I had the opposite experience in the early 90s. I was a rabid fan through the 80s, so the 90s stuff, with much of it massively smoothed (Diamonds & Pearls) made me loose interest. Not to mention the most basic, repetitive "groove" Prince ever layed on a record: Gett Off! It was painful going from the intricacy of Lovesexy to that within a few years.

.

But, over the past 5 years or so I've been revisiting Prince's 90s music and I love it now. For me it now holds its own as part of his body of work. I love to see Prince growing and trying new things. And as a musician the article definitely motivates me to give it all an even deeper listen to the tracks where NPG show their stuff.

.

Great article. dove

Those lost Paisley Park tales are hilarious. I love this piece. Great job, Rolling Stone.

Awesome article... Really enjoyed it. I think the 90's may have, in many ways, been one of the coolest and most interesting periods of his career. The Love Symbol album is awesome.
