New (long-ish) article at NYT: Prince’s Addiction and an Intervention Too Late

http://www.nytimes.com/2016/05/05/arts/music/friends-sought-help-for-princes-addiction-lawyer-says.html

"Concerned friends said they had recently been discussing Prince’s emotional state. He had told some people that he was feeling depressed, and some suspected he was going through a period of professional stagnancy."

Sad stuff here.

Thank you. Depression can certainly make pain seem worse and also cause one to lose track of how much medicine they've taken.

Unreal. In this end looks like it was the intense feeling of shame that prevented him from getting help in time.

This is a monumental tragedy. Not so much for the music since it seems he had lost interst in new music but rather we'll never hear his story in his words. So much of his life is mystery. I heard he only got a few pages into his memoires. There is so much I would have like to have heard from him about his youth, his early career, his loves....

Ach...this just sucks more and more everyday!

He lost interest in music??

I don't argue with people about my opinions. Scram. I said what I said.

Yes. New music. He said as much in a few of the more recent interviews.

I could tell over the past few years(or even the past decade or more) that he had basically lost interest in making new music and I beleive that, in all honesty, he had reached creative burn-out, he had nothing left to give us and he could no longer carry on!! I, for one, and I am sure a lot of other real hardcore fans feel the same, that you could tell by the music quality, the whole presentation, even as far as artwork and packaging that his heart was no longer in it!! His last 3 projects, AOA and the Hit&Runs were, to me anyway, the worse music projects in terms of music and presentation that I have ever seen from any prolific artist!! Basically, he was just going through the motions of it all!! He tried to stimulate his interest in making new music by enrolling 3rdEyeGirl, which just didnt work, in my opinion!!

He left us on a high note, with just him and a piano!!

Disagree on saying his AOA and HitnRuns weren't any good. There are several songs on each album I dig and love. I guess each to his own opinion. razz lol

I personally feel that he wanted to retire a few years ago, but, we, the fans wouldnt let him, so I think that we are, in some way, to blame for his passing!!

Nonsense
Edit: I would say that it is probably his waning popularity that is in part to blame. If he had more people depending on him to make a living, probably the intervention would have happened before. It is sad to read such a big star used to be so alone. Didn't he have a manager? Someone who cared for his health?
