Does anybody remember during the LOVE 4 ONE ANOTHER and JAM OF THE YEAR tours Prince had flyers handed out asking if you would live a copy of the performance? So hypothetically.. most of the tour was probably recorded?

Nearly each, if not each and every show ever played by Prince was recorded, and filmed as well (though most seem to have been filmed with a single camera, therefore difficult to exploit commercially). P's entire live discography is there in the vault for us to hear.

I forgot (and I have it!) that did get an official release. IIRC, there is also an official R&RHOF cd that also has the performance...

The problem is very few of the video releases are of good quality. Most sourced from aging VHS or old TV recordings, and even if the quality is still good, they are in 4:3 ratio with poor sound.

The best quality performance I have seen and which should have had an official release was the Montreux 2009 performances. Clear, widescreen and 2 exceptional shows. Oh, and of course the redigitised SOTT DVD. Everything else, whilst great to watch, is pretty poor quality. Ive been watching a shit load of Youtube stuff (as we all have I imagine) and it makes me feel old! All those VHS shows I used to watch when I was younger look like they come from a completely different and nostalgic era. Its one step away from being in black and white!

I do hope we get some live shows released in full HD, widescreen glory. There will be a lot in the vault, Im sure.

I hope so too. I wrote this on another thread a few days ago, but at the very least, ideally the live shows from Lovesexy 88, the Nude tour and Rock in Rio all the way to the 21 Nights at the O2 should be released on DVD, with the earlier VHS/TV footage remastered if necessary.

I'm quite sure that DVD releases will shortly follow (Syracuse 85, Dortmund 88, Three Chains Of Gold...).

I miss U Prince.. sad

I've just seen 2 live CDs for pre-order on Amazon :

"Beautiful Ones 1985" which is from Purple Rain tour and "Nude 1990" which is a CD of a Radio broadcast I think.

Presumably not official releases? How does that happen?

Bootlegs that evidently slip through some kind of broadcast loophole. Shameful, really.

I don't think there's any legal loophole at all: Prince's estate could demand that Amazon delete the entries immediately and the bootleggers are counting on the fact that they'll be too busy to do so before a while. 100% bootleg.
