The dude can play an out of tune guitar in tune by moving his hands. Genius. Can anybody do that? Maybe Robert Johnson.

My man was a feminist:

http://www.huffingtonpost...09baf09a21

Yup, a feminist who wrote songs about rape, slut shaming, and locking girlfriends behind big tall walls. A feminist who shagged his employees and groomed women to dance around in lingerie - things most men could not get away with in a workplace outside Paisley Park. A feminist who said things like, and I'm paraphrasing, "those dykes are going to hell." I'm sure Prince believed, in his own way, that women deserved equal opportunities, but he said and did a lot of things that are not in keeping with contemporary feminism. I'm not sure he ever self-identified as a feminist, either, but I could be wrong. Prince was complicated. In fact, he demonstrates a paradox - that a man doesn't have to be a feminist to respect and enable women's empowerment.

I don't recall any songs of his where topics like "rape" were portrayed in a positive light. Maybe he doesn't fit your definition of a feminist, or hell maybe he didn't consider himself a feminist at all. But a lot of modern day feminists seem to be moving toward a whole other thing, almost misandrist.

I'm not trying to bash Prince. I'm for freedom of speech, and I can appreciate nuance in lyrics. I'm sure Prince didn't advocate for rape. I don't care if he's a feminist or not. In the most general sense that feminism is about equal rights and pay for women, Prince was probably a feminist. But if you played "Lady Cab Driver" - and that song isn't even about rape - for the contemporary feminists coming out of university gender studies programs who write for liberal websites like Huffington Post, they would all start back-tracking their artists and calling him a "problematic" artist who promoted women yadda yadda yadda while also objectifying them yadda yadda yadda.

Another addendum, I think he obviously loved women, which to me says more than his adherence to ideology. The most misogynist person I've ever met is a self-identifying feminist woman, another paradox.
