Prince CD/DVD Releases Availability in the UK

I don't think I'm alone when I say that since forever when I've gone into a record store I always head to where I think the Prince CDs will be, somewhere near Elvis Presley, Prefab Sprout and the Proclaimers, right?!

Anyway, Ive done the same in the last week too, and although I usually buy what I need online that's due to over the years there being a declining stock of Prince albums. I went into an independent record store and (out of my own tribute I suppose) bought the 12" singles of Sign 'O The Times and U Got the Look...why not I thought, and I don't even own a vinyl record player anymore.

I was interested to see what the supermarkets would do, in January there were Bowie CDs everywhere but there was nothing Prince related at all this week but that's not too surprising and maybe there will be some re-prints soon and we'll see the shelves with CDs we all recognise.

I was driving to Swansea last night and after a week that we all found so difficult to get our head round and with so many unanswered questions as well as the feeling of loss, there was an Org post that for the first time brought me out of my sad self and made me smile and it was a topic where likeminded fans had been talking about their collections. I'm a Prince fan, have been since I was 12 and that's 30+ years. I had it in mind that I wanted to start a post with a title 'Where do we go from here..?' because maybe that's what a lot if us have been feeling but in times like this I go back to the music and my collection too, just like these other folks discussing which items they wished they never sold.

Where am I going with this, well today I rounded a corner to find a HMV so I did what I usually do and head to the 'Pr' section and there was only the most recent releases, no ATWIAD or Parade, nothing surprising there. I then asked where the live DVD releases were, more optimistic than anything but before I even got to the section I saw a few boxes of Prince CDs and DVDs at the back if the store waiting to be put out on display, they even had Dirty Mind but generally it was the best of CDs, Purple Rain and Graffiti Bridge DVDs but at least physical releases seem to be on the way.

The reason I'm writing all if this in a very roundabout way us to tell you that there was also the Purple Rain blu-ray release for £8.99 which was the one thing I really wanted. So, if you are struggling to get your hands on Prince items like this, which is going for silly prices online then there is hope of seeing more Prince releases in store, and hopefully in the future we'll even see some new releases too.

That's what I hope, still can't believe Prince is gone, all that energy, showmanship and sheer talent, I don't think that can ever truly disappear.
