Met Kevin at the Celebration and we talked about comics. Its amazing how all these various aspects of my interests collided in one weekend this way.

In this new video, Kevin feels really guilty about some of his old video being mean-spirited in parts. I thought some of it was a bit over the line too, but you could still tell he was a big fan. But he says he was young and stupid and been there, I guess. His love for P is really moving though when you watch the new one.

I did listen to the whole thing . was surprised at Kevin but I still like him ...

I do think he is funny ... and not too irreverent when he talks about Prince

Lets face it alot of the fans thought similar thoughts about Prince at various

times in his life when he would do things we just shook our heads at ...

I always enjoy listening to Kevin Smith talking and this was really nice. I was cracking up when he told the story about Mayte's name and how he had thought it was pronounced mate.

RIP sad

Wow, the story when Prince told Kevin that there's no point in performing 7 without Mayte dancing to the song.

Yes, very touching. That is the same reason he did not play the Emancipation songs. He must have still loved Mayte, but she probably reminded him of a very bad time, thus he did nott want to remian close.

But at some point he started performing that song again..without Mayte.

Glad to see this. I love Kevin Smith & think his story is as funny as Charlie Murphy's from the Chappelle Show. I've always felt that anyone that got their panties in a twist over Smith's story were those same people that believed Prince was perfect and never did anything wrong. Of course he wasn't perfect, he was human, and there was plenty to laugh at.

So happy to see this touching tribute. Thanks for posting!! wink

A nice video.

He shouldn't be too hard on himself. I'm not a fan but I have no doubt he told it like it was back in 2002.

The bit where Kevin started to tear up - because he introduced his daughter to Prince, who then spoke and danced with her...

It is really touching to read and see all the memories of all these people who loved Prince or had respect for him. Those who constantly talk about his musical talent are starting to bore and annoy me because that is so obvious and sounds a bit empty and trivial to me but it is those memories shared by people like the late Big Chick Huntsberry´s family or Kevin Smith or even that conspiracy theorist David Icke or Van Jones that resonate with me the most, and it helps me to deal with the grief to listen to them or read their articles during these sad days.

Have you seen the cartoon of Kevin Smith as Silent Bob standing in front of Prince´s tombstone, crying?

It is on his FB page.

For a hardcore fan Kevin Smith is wrong about a couple of things though, especially when it comes to the chronology of albums and the songs on them. wink

David Icke is very perceptive. The first person i've heard express confucion at the contradiction between Prince JW beliefs and his interest in the esoteric, consciousness annd the nature of reality, especially on Art Official Age.

I met Kevin Smith at a rooftop party he threw for our movie 'Bindlestiffs" (he had just bought the rights to it). As he was making his way down the line shaking hands he came up to me, and before I could say anything, he said, "You know I've worked with Prince?"

It was meant to be funny because he had been forewarned that I was a fanatic. I and my friend Amy cracked up.

Missed out on hanging out with him later that night with a few others.

To be fair, he admitted to losing track of Prince as fan for quite some time so that's probably why he had his chronology mixed up. He said seeing all the recently uploaded content on youtube was bringing it back for him.

Certainly is. "Feels wrong we watched his entire fucking career". I'd not made that connection. Wow.

.
