How depressed was he about Vanity?

I haven't seen anyone mention this

Now I'm older than movies, Now I'm wiser than dreams, And I know who's there
When silhouettes fall

I've said several times that I think her death broke his heart.

she’d want us to celebrate her life and not mourn her."

That's what prince said about vanity. He'd want us to do the same with him. But those two were very close.

He´s had countless relationships and two marriages after his rather short relationship with Vanity. And it was such a long, long time ago.

Are you serious?

Do you, as a nurse, believe in such things or have you ever seen patients that made you think that they died due to psychosomatic illness ? Scientists agree that a broken heart can indeed lead to physical distress.

Me being a nurse has nothing to do with this. I truly believe that no matter how much time past that they loved each other and yes people do die from broken hearts neutral

Yeah, I read about that quite often. Mostly elderly couples.

Even though Rick James and Tina Marie had health issues. I do believe she loved Rick and that contributed to her death.

Well, I was interested in your opinion as a fan and from a medical point of view.

-

I have no idea how much Vanity must have meant to him.

You might be on to something. But remember there were Susannah, Mayte, apparantly Sheila and Mani in his life. And Jill Jones and Susan.

-

Anyway....I have always found it remarkable how many of his ex-partners became friends over the years and never get into catfights whenever they meet. The only moment of tension that I remember was between Cat Glove and Mayte, and that situation was probablyl only a few seconds.

Reminds of this French film from the 70s....The Man Who Loved Women...at least that´s the French title

It starts with many, many women at the funeral of a man who´s been in love with all of them at some point in his life. Just like all those women who are in Minneapolis right now , reminiscing, mourning, and celebrating him and his life.

Kooleaze Prince had many women this we know lol He married two of them and even loved them, but he said he always loved Vanity sad I will always believe they were made for each other and if they had met later in life things may have been different.

Not saying this applies to Prince but there's a term for it these days, broken heart syndrome where when one long term spouse in old age dies, the other does not too long after

I think it's a factor. When Vanity died, I typed a message, which I believe I deleted before posting, was 'Oh Lawd, somebody check on Prince, because she was THE ONE'.

I think Denise's death affected him greatly... maybe it made him realise just how much she meant to him, and how irreplacable she was to him. I mean he said she was like his female reflection, it doesnt get much closer than that. It certainly is spooky how soon they left the world from one another, like they could only really exist in this world together

And as a friend and fellow life-long Prince fan pointed out the other day....he's been chasing her ever since she walked out on him. Every woman he's been with since Denise/Vanity has looked like her to some degree. Prince defined his 'type' based off of her

I saw the late Melbourne show the day Vanity passed. He sounded heartbroken singing Purple Rain. She was clearly the inspiration behind a lot of his early songs that he sang throughout his life.

I noticed that too when I heard the boot. The sorrow. It was sad
Thank you Prince for every note you left behind 💜

i've heard of people dying of a broken heart, especially my people, the american indians. I've also saw it in a cat I had. we had a pair, raised like brother and sister, when one of them went, the other just seemed to give up. I couldn't pick him up, he'd pee on me if I did, and within two months he was gone. they also say that in long married couples, when one goes the other goes not long after. It's hard to say with Prince, he had so many women, but you know, sometimes us men, we are so hung up on one woman that we never will get over her. I loved a woman who treated me like utter garbage, yet and still, if she died, I'd be a wreck, don't think it would kill me though.

I don't think it killed him, but if he was already suffering from some problems and in a depressed state I could see it not exactly helping his mood.

Love can outlive relationships sometimes. It is strange how they died within weeks of oneanother. Perhaps he did carry a torch for her all these years, I like to think maybe he did. As a fan, I was always attracted to him because he wasn't an open book...nowadays a lot of stars put so much of themselves out there, the idea of somebody being a"brand" etc. Prince was never a brand, he was always just himself and kept a line drawn when it came to his private life. I like that. I think he had a lot of heartache in his life, especially the loss of his child and so on. He never spoke about it, or asked the wider world for help. I like to think he is reunited with his lost ones now.

When Prince died I told my mother that I was devastated but I was not really surprised. I had a feeling that he would not live very long after Vanity died. I was so looking forward to his book, I thought ok it's coming out next year that will give him something to focus on, he might be ok. Sadly, he did not make it two months. I have been listening to this man's music for 30 years and if you really look you can see his love for Vanity weaved throughout so many of his songs through the years. Go back and listen to the Come album. Her voice is literally between each song. Interesting that he sang Dark in his final show in Atlanta which I believe was also written about her. On the Truth album, listen to Dionne ( he says I could whisper your name if only for fun, remember at the time she did not want to be called Vanity anymore she wanted to be called Denise). Listen to One of your tears and pull up the Jet magazine cover of Vanity when she married that football player. He describes the picture to a tee. He was probably staring at it when he wrote the song, Look at how many times he used the vibrator sample on his albums. He makes references to her on the Planet Earth album ( future baby mama, shoe, lion of judah), the 20ten album (sea of everything), and so many others. He revealed on this tour that he had written the beautiful ones for her, dirty mind, little red corvette, adore, strange relationship. Also that wonderful cover of David Bowie's Heroes, everyone was raving about it because it was a tribute to Bowie. However, if you listen to the lyrics I think he chose it because the lyrics describe his relationship to Vanity and all the forces that kept them from being together. I don't care what comes out in the media about his cause of death I am thoroughly convinced that he died of a broken heart.

I think your conclusion is absolutely right. I've always seen their connection also, through all them songs he did. He tried to forget her, but he never could.
