Yep...this will be a massive FUBAR. Would be tragic (but perhaps the best scenario in preserving the legacy) if the siblings just decide to cash out and sell the entire library to a music co.

100% speculation at this point. Like similar stories online, this is just a journalist asking lawyers who are not involved with Prince, his family or his estate what all the possibilities are.

Check out The Mountains and the Sea, a Prince podcast by yours truly and my wife. More info at https://www.facebook.com/TMATSPodcast/

The one positive if there's no will is that there is no instruction to torch the Vault. And no one would dream of doing such a thing if he didn't ask them to.

How the hell do you split such a thing? It's theoretically worth more than the current cash value of his estate. Or, quite possible, almost nothing (financially). Even if they tested the waters by releasing Roadhouse Garden tomorrow and it sells like hotcakes, who is to say when the hype dies down how future releases would fair? (That said, if such a release was a complete flop next month, we would pretty much have our answer)

This is all nuts.

Why spend all that time recording excess music you will neither release nor protect, when you could be off banging Kim Basinger instead?

Why would it be a personal fortune? Wouldn't Prince be the proprietor of a business? That business would have specific documents detailing control and ownership.

Remember that Van Jones said that Prince's lawyer Phaedra fought for Prince to get back his catalogue, and did. Prince, more than likely, has his businesses as well as an estate. He's had laywers all of his life and estate managers. No way he doesn't have wills and documents for the businesses.

Still it's nice to know, when our bodies wear out, we can get another

Who says you can't record excess music at the same time you're banging Kim Basinger? yoda
