So I seem to remember he had a fall on stage hence the cane. But you obviously never see him with one on stage and he is very agile and mobile on stage.

So is he a real life yoda or gene wilder as willy wonka when you first see him or does he just need the cane when he is walking or is it just a statement?

Maybe a weapon...

It's his pimp cane. He's been waing with a cane in hand since what, the 90's? it goes hand in hand with his whole pimp persona...the clothes, the hair, everything. He moves quite well on stage without it, not sure why people insist he uses it because he hurt himself?

I know Prince has been using a cane off and on for years now as a prop, but the canes he's been sporting lately look more practical than stylish. Check out the pics of him walking to his seat on the sidelines of a basketball court recently. The cane has a huge rubber stopper. It looks very, dare I say, "orthopedic" to me. It's evident that he seems to get around just fine, but it could very well be that he needs the cane once in a while.

I won't add to the hip surgery speculation. There's plenty of chatter about that already, BUT Prince said himself in a TV interview a few years ago that he's been having bouts of vertigo. He could carry the cane around for balance on the infrequent times when the vertigo hits. It seems kind of silly to carry a cane as a fashion accessory and go through the trouble of carrying with you just to walk on stage to your piano and again carry it with you as you ride a bike off stage.

The brorha suffered through the inconvenience of high heels for decades out of vanity but the inconvenience of a cane as a simple accessory is silly? He's accessorized with a cane for at least a couple decades now, since the mid-nineties, but suddenly he needs a cane because of vertigo? Maybe in 2016 he uses a canenfor the same reason he used cane in 1995...cuz he thinks it looks cool and flashy. Lord knows Prince loves cool and flashy.

He's been wearing sunglasses indoors for decades to look cool. But now, in 2016 he wears sunglasses indoors because his eyes are extra sensitive to the point of indoor fluorescent lighting irritates his eyes...yeah...that's the ticket... And there really is an actual third eye behind that third lense of the AOA sunglasses. And I'm convinced the earwraps help keep his abused ears(decades of loud as fuck concerts) attached to his head.

Edit: is this the sarcasm u speak of DODGER? :cheekymonkey: wink

He was practicaly running out of the Ritz Carlton the other day based on the footage TMZ had. So the hip issue is out. Prince suffers from Vertigo and people with Vertigo are sometimes told to carry canes, just in case, so that's probably it. Odd thing about Prince and vertigo: pirouettes. Remember those? Prince's defining dance move staple of the Purple Rain era? How in the hell did a kid with Vetigo, perfect that?

Pimp... in a turtleneck? Peuh-leeze!

The only good cane is a Lovesexy cane flipping mid-air above a cyan Steinway.

This one looks like ivory, not very Animal Kingdomesque to me...

I seem to remember he reportedly has hip problems and needs surgery on them (but won't do it), hence the cane.

Wtf? I seem to remember Prince wielding a cane since (at least) 1988. For more information on this, Google image search:Pimp rag tootsie pop and a cane.

Who rocked the cane first Vanity or Prince?

pimp rag, tootisie pop and a cane. thie cane thing goes way back so not about the turtleneck. Even still, only a pimp could get away with wearing a blue tunic over a white turtleneck with mirror sunglasses, carrying a cane.
