"Blue Limousine" is my favorite A6 song.Brenda's lead vocals are fantastic and the lyrics are great! It's a perfect track that should have been a major hit single.

(3) EXT. STREETS #1 -- NIGHT

A TAXI pulls UP with a SCREECH. VANITY
slouches in the backseat. Black boots,
black skin-tight pants, and a mane of
thick, black hair presents a beautiful
and imposing figure. Her eyes are
large and dark -- her look open and
ripe. She knows what she's got, and
doesn't make any excuses for it -- but
the fact is she's scared as hell,
possessing a vulnerability that
surprises her by its suddenness. An
expensive gold chain is fastened on one
boot.

She scrounges through her bag -- pulls
out her remaining cash. It's drastically
short of what she owes and she knows it.
She tosses it onto the front seat,
JUMPS from the cab, streaks across the
street. The CABBIE lets out a YELL and
JUMPS out after her.

"Let's Get Crazy" continues as we ...

One thing that went wrong with A6 is that awful album cover. It already looked dated in 1984, and time has not been kind to it since....

Late in my early teenage, I was considered fast
While some of the girls were failing, I passed in every class
Our principal's name was Christian and I played upon his fears
In exchange 4 my diploma, I loved him through the years
CHORUS:
Happy birthday Mr. Christian, what are we gonna do?
U want a teenage past-time, I want a love that's true
A man in your position, U oughta be ashamed
Happy birthday Mr. Christian, why can't U live up 2 your name?

It was only the first semester but my body developed quick
Compared 2 the size of my chest then, all the other girls looked sick
Mr. Christian stared at me always, desire turned 2 pain
I suggested we go 2 his office and that's when the lunch bell rang

CHORUS

Oh Mr. Christian, U're a bad boy
Why that's not a pencil ... shame
Oh Mr. Christian, U're a bad boy
Why can't U live up 2 your name?

We had our love down to an art form
Each act was like scenes from a play (Every act...)
With every lesson I gave him
Mr. Christian gave me an A
I graduated with honors
A riddle 2 everyone
Everyone except Christian
Mr. Christian and I, and our son (Mr. Christian, me and our son)

CHORUS {repeat twice in BG}

What are we gonna do?
I want a love that's true
U oughta be ashamed
Why can't U live up 2 your name?
What are we gonna do?
No tengo tiempo para jugar {I have no time 2 play games}
Necesito un hombre verdadero, no metido {I need a real man, not a liar}
Always a man
Tú sí que no te enteras, chaval, OK? {U don't understand, boy, OK?}
Qué hacemos? {What are we gonna do?}
Habla fuerte que no te oigo! {Speak louder cuz I can't hear U!}
Christian! Christian! Christian!

Oh Mr. Christian, U're a bad boy

Christian
Give me some horns, oh
I like it

Christian! {x4}

Happy birthday 2 U, happy birthday 2 U
Happy birthday Mr. Christian, happy birthday 2 U

Happy birthday, Mr. Christian

Initial tracking took place in June 1984, at the Flying Cloud Drive Warehouse, Eden Prairie, MN, USA, as the last song recorded for the album. The track replaced Manic Monday on the album (Manic Monday had been included on a Warner Bros. pre-release cassette of the album). The track is the last-known track to be recorded before the release of Prince and the Revolution's album Purple Rain.

Recording Personnel
  • Apollonia - lead vocals
  • Brenda Bennett - vocals
  • Susan Moonsie - vocals
  • Prince - all instruments, except where noted (uncredited)
  • Susannah Melvoin - background vocals
  • Brown Mark - background vocals

LOL yes the Ice Cream Castles and Apollonia 6 album covers were not good, made no sense. What is that anyway? Images of buildings from Minneapolis?

Apollonia 6, wow.

Great and sexxy album - especially the 2 first tracks are amazing.. woot!

I wish the cd was more easy to buy, I only have a copy, I would love to own the original.

I do have the original on vinyl and I love it..... music

About the cover, they are a little under-dressed, but that was Prince's idea from the beginning right?

lol cool

I do't mind the dress, but the background, scene, setting is weird. Sheila E the Glamorous Life cover is an A+

when I look at a lot of images of Apollonia 6 vs Vanity 6
A6 images look cheesy and manufactured vs V6 which look raw and edgy

It is surprising that this cassette didn't surface in all these years (if I'm not wrong, maybe missed it).

The only "Manic Monday" outtake I'm aware of is a rough P&A duet which sounds more like a demo than a finished tracks (and I never listened to a clear quality version of it, every "upgrade" of the latest years were far from official quality, soundwise).

I suppose that the "Manic Monday" on the cassette is a proper mixed track in line with the others and according to that sounding more like the released Bangles version than that demo duet.

I wonder also if the "Sex Shooter" version in that cassette is the same as released or longer, if not it would be a really short lenght first side.

I didn't like the LP cover either, but that bikini shot insert was fantastic! Had it right on my wall w/ the Vanity/Apples & Shelia posters.

Something that connected it to the movie would have been perfect (same with Ice Cream Castles)

That photo in my opening post of them at the Taste Bar/club would have been perfect

(9) EXT. STREETS #2 -- NIGHT

A SEVILLE sweeps to a stop. The
Businessman is at the wheel. Vanity
steps from the car languidly and offers
a curt wave goodbye. The car pulls
away.

She stands serenely a moment as the CAR
twists around the corner. She grabs
her bag, rushes into a dark alley. She
pulls a handful of CASH from her pocket,
counts through it quickly.

'Let's Get Crazy" -continues as we ...

(12) INT. MOTEL ROOM -- NIGHT

The DOOR opens -- A LIGHT goes on.
Vanity stands in the hallway, peers
cautiously into a squalid, rundown room.
She hesitates briefly, seems to sigh,
then indicates she will take it. The
MANAGER closes the door as he leaves.

She stands a moment, surveys the room.
A bed and bureau, sink, a chair,
hotplate -- simply the essentials. She
pulls a dress from her bag, a pair of hi-
heels, some gloves, underwear. She
hangs the dress on a rod, places the
shoes beneath it, arranges the rest in a
bureau drawer. She looks around once
more -- flowered wallpaper peels from
the walls.

She rushes to the window, tears open the
shutters -- iron bars obstruct her
view...

(13) EXT. CLUB -- NIGHT (VANITY'S POV)

... KIDS are crowded in front of the
CLUB. A YELLOW CADDY SCREECHES up in
front. TRAFFIC is jammed all around.
The night is electric -- the scene
beckons ...

(14) INT. VANITY'S HALLWAY -- NIGHT

She runs from the room, cuts down the
hallway, slanming the door behind her
...

"Let's Get Crazy" continues as we...

Did Apollonia 6 end too soon? Did Prince give up on them too soon? What do you guys think? hmmm How do you think they could have evolved?

I think the novelty of the group wore off right after the movie and tour. P also focused so much of his energy to The Family, Shelia, "U.T.C.M" and all of those songs that made (and didn't make) "Parade".....By that time Apollonia 6 was probably a small blip in his mind. If they wanted to evolve (say late 85-early 86), they probably could have done another record with stronger songs...(with outside writers and producers a'la Full Force, Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis)...And since Apollonia was branching into TV, they probably could have had their own 30 minute sitcom-musical MTV or HBO series...(I'm sure it probably would have been short lived).

I don't think Apollonia had the charisma nor drive to carry it further

If Vanity was still on board, she could have taken it much further and it work...

Not really. Apollonia did not nor could she take the group further. So Prince wasn't going to focus on A6 any further.
What he should have done was pull Brenda & Susan further into the camp. He definately wanted to do more with Brenda definately

And since he knew from the start Apollonia was only on board for the PR fame, he should have made an album that included Jill Jones, a few Apollonia 6 songs, and some let Brenda Jesse Johnson and other make some music to see what developed and what the next direction could have been.
