I prefer, pop, funk, soul, rock, disco... those more "classic" genres, with good "song writing", and real musicianship.

I detest socalled hiphop "artists" just rapping over a beat or a stolen sample from a real song.

I prefer the "originals".

Same. A lot of music i love now i was too young to appreciate as a teen. A lot of it pre-dates me. I love the exploration of music. I Just don't like all types.

It's coming back to me now although I don't remember the source. Dr. Dre has said that if he could work with anybody it would be Prince

Dre has made some great records... there's no point comparing him to Prince, or saying he's 'beneath' him, how ridiculous...

Of course, there's no contest, talent-wise or musicianship-wise, but Dre certainly has talent. But he has only made three distinct solo albums, aside from his work with NWA and many others that were his proteges etc...

True, Dre did base much of his iconic work - around the time of The Chronic and Doggystyle - on the work of George Clinton's Parliament/Funkadelic and other P-Funk era tunes... but they were never just lazy raps a la Puff Daddy talking nonsense over a Police song... Dre always added his own thing... and he had a very distince world view.

He's had a significant impact on urban music over the last three decades... and, much as I love Prince's recent work, it is very much in a bubble... and Dre's recent Compton album, which I find incredibly good, is far more vital, alive, adventurous and exciting than nearly anything Prince has done in a while.

I don't know if Dre ever mentioned Prince, or why he shoud have to. He knows what's going on, he's something of a musicologist in that sense, I think.

And while there's a lot of unoriginal hip-hop out there, to write it all off as unoriginal is just a bit daft. One listen to Kendrick Lamar's (another Dre protege) incredible 'To Pimp A Butterfly' would confirm that.

Yeah, he's clearly just unhappy about the Prince copyright/sampling issues. Then when Snoop brings up the fact that it's not just about Prince-branded but also associate artists songs that were written by Prince (probably the ones he sees as more useful for sampling) the off-camera person tries to take it in a "Prince-is-so-multi-talented-and-plays-everything" direction, Snoop (who already isn't happy) gets mad that the interviewer's trying to interrupt and redirect what he's in the middle of saying, and that's when he really seems to get angry. But I think it has to do in part with the interviewer's stepping on his toes, too, not just with Prince's hangups and how they impact hiphop artists.

I asked Philadelphia rapper Schoolly D on Facebook why he would post a picture of Prince after Prince passed away because back in the day Schoolly D dissed Prince pretty hard in his song I Don´t Like RockNRoll, and Schoolly said to me that they didn´t like him because Prince dissed rappers first, and he changed his mind after Prince opened up to rap music, and now he thinks Prince was great.

Go figure.

Yeah , I noticed that too. I still like Snoop, and I think one could say to his credit that at least he´s being honest and true to himself, because he was critical of him before he died, so why should he change his tune?

Then again, maybe it wasn´t such a big issue to him and he does feel sad, too. I mean, he did channel some purple flavor in his Sensual Seduction song and video, and he´s friends with DamFunk, who is a huge Prince fan and is very affected by Prince´s death.
