"Lovesexy".

Not only the best of all P covers, but one of the best of the entire music release history.

Exactly...and Lotusflow3r is great as well, it reminds me of those mid to late 70s Earth Wind & Fire covers illustrated by Shusei Nagaoka

Favorite: Sign o the Times

Best: Rainbow Children

SOTT demands you look around the photo, and there's neat moments. Out of focus Prince in the foreground is brilliant. Really provocative cover coming off "Parade".

Rainbow Children is a sharp composition by a real artist- good use of the canvas and he should use more real art for covers.

Not among the choices, but my absolute favorite all time is "Parade".

Bluedell

In order:

SOTT - the vinyl version is even better than the CD version
ATWIAD - like the influences
Rainbow Children - a fab piece of art
Purple Rain - looks cool
Lotusflower
2010
1999
TBE - bland
Lovesexy - worst ever.. By any artist

I'm guessin' not everybody is seeing the picture (obviously Thunderfunk didn't, cuz he said so)--but I see it, and from those I'm gonna pick Sign o the Times.

Now, to the more iimportant question--why those 9 covers? In particular, why The Beautiful Experience?

Yes, it's there now... but it wasn't when I posted.

That said, "Only the ones shown please" ?!?!

Really?!? So, if someone likes 3121 best KCOOL won't let them vote for it? Right! That's silly. lol

The Beautiful Experience Cd is a very interesting one, the symbol part opening up and folding out. Rather unique stylisation.

I find it very hard to narrow it down to just one because of those covers you posted I like Lovesexy, 1999 and Purple Rain equally but for different qualities.

1999 is so simple, almost primitive yet so mysterious, with that Revolution hint in reverse and all those little details, and of course that majestic, purple background. And the backcoverĀ“s lettering is great, too. It also looks a bit dark and cold, reminiscent of the atmosphere of the album. That cover got me really curious and still hasnĀ“t lost its aura.

.

Purple Rain is the most iconic one and has great colors, takes PrinceĀ“s looks one step further from what he looked like during the 1999 era and the backcover fits perfectly to the romantic themes of the album. The flipside is quite beautiful and I like the fonts that they used for this album. What annoys me a bit is that typo "anals" instead of "annals" where it says "....thereĀ“s this purple suspicion that lurks in the anals of my mind that you and I are alike in more ways than six."

I know this sounds a bit pedantic but hey, it is the most famous Prince album and that typo still irks me a bit.

Lovesexy....now this one caused quite a controversy and triggers different reactions. While I understand that some may feel uncomfortable with that nude picture I think it was an artistic statement and a very bold move that only Prince could get away with without looking corny. There are so many albums that have a naked or half-naked man as an album cover but most look awful or look very dated today but Lovesexy looks timeless and I think Jean Baptiste Mondino did a great job. It also reflects the albumĀ“s theme very well. I also happen to like the I Wish U Heaven video a lot. It has a very dreamy feel.

Too bad that so many people dislike this album cover so strongly because of the nudity.

" IĀ“d rather be a stank ass hoe because IĀ“m not stupid. Oh my goodness! I got more drugs! IĀ“m always funny dude...IĀ“m hilarious! Are we gonna smoke?"

1999, ATWIAD and Lovesexy, SOTT are probably my favourites. Lovesexy has kind of a kitsch approach to it. Super clichƩ pose with that flower etc... What makes the picture iconic and original is that it's a man, and that it's the androgynous legend PRINCE. How can you not like it? smile

I have a few:

Dirty Mind - as raw as the cover looks, it has a certain post-disco look to it.

1999 - do I need an explaination?

Purple Rain - beautiful and astmopheric cover.

LoveSexy - same with Purple Rain.

Diamonds & Pearls - Prince looked so cool strutting and being surrounded by those pretty women.

Emancipation - shows the LoveSymbol in front of a reddish due - very dramatic looking.

SOTT is my favourite from this list. But why this selection Kcool?

My favourites from his entire catalogue are SOTT, 1999, Parade, Dirty Mind and Come. All perfect album covers which capture the feel of the albums themselves

Still....it was a maxi-single cover, not what I'd call an album cover.

e

did the phalus drawn by Prince as the "1" on the 1999 cover, slip by the prudish Americans or was it just Lovesexy cover that took the heat?

hm...tough. I like Lotusflow3r a lot. I like the slick and kind of fantastical sci-fi style, and the colors and symmetry, the pyramid and lotus symbols remind me a bit of Earth Wind and Fire records, so it's like futuristic funk cover art. Very appropriate.

.

But I like the 1999 cover a lot too. It was my first Prince album on vinyl so I'm kind of playing favorites, but I like how the artwook is rough, personal, raw and distinctive. It feels anti-authoritarian and a bit rebellious with the incorporated sexual elements. A effective rock and roll album cover.

.

The Beautiful Experience maxi-single is a solid choice. The symbol is prominent, with high visibility, Great colorburst, fairly simple, but artistic. Catches the eye, leaves an impression, recognizable.

.

Guess it's a three-way tie with me. cool
