I would only be down for this if I could just see him trying to rename/rehape the contestants into classic Prince protege material. Time to whip out the black lingerie and anatomy suggestive stage names (Example: "Fallopia 8", or some other crazy shit like that) razz

I would say he is better off not trying to be anything. He has something that selling 10 Million albums can not give anyone... actual status.

When he walks on stage in a room full of super stars the super stars say "holy corn it's Prince"

"Keep on shilling for Big Pharm!"

Prince is popular enough .. However .. He could stop doing things that make him less popular. .. He is killing his legacy with his childish behavior and batshit crazy bad music .. He could cut out suing his fans or making people distribute his music for him ... Or his mess with wb ... He could stop wearing really ugly clothes or writing songs that sound like 2live crew ... He could stop playing medleys .. Stop talking shit to the press about people who have worked for him ... He could stop hiring highschool level shitty musicians to work with .. He could stop playin toy instruments that sound like he bought them at toys r us .. Less is more ... No doubt solid music from p has a fucking huge fanbase to be tapped ... People are sick of p being all talk and no follow through.

All he needs is COORDINATION. For years he has been unable to leverage huge appearances and shows with any album. Super Bowl a few years ago - no real corresponding album. New Girl appearance - debuted a new song but it wasn't available for weeks and not on an album for years after. Rock and Roll Love Affair - a good video and no album, not on an album for years. Arsenio - no correspondence to the 3EG album or AOA, talking about he can take his time to make an album now. And now an awesome solo tour, handing out HNR2 that's not connected to the tour in any real way.

what would the end result be from the leverage..sell tickets,,,,he can do that no porblem

.
The OP's question was "what can Prince do to become more popular." More coordination...hell, ANY coordination...between the various projects he has going at any given time was my answer.

FUNKYNESS

HitnRun1 sadly proved that Prince has done everything possible in an effort to be popular again. Authentic, brilliant, real music is not popular anymore - so Prince is not going to be as popular as he once was or deserves to be. As a devoted Prince fanatic for over 3 decades, I accepted this fact years ago. It seems Prince wont - and so we come to the nadir of the greatest musical career in the last century with the likes of Johsua Welton and a cadre of unqualified adolescents who should be studying Prince instead the other way around.

Prince should not do anything to be popular again. If he comes to that realization, I will be able to die happy.

Yep. And include some outtakes on those remastered releases. It's not that hard really.

That would be beautiful.

Two things, firstly allow your songs to be put on YouTube. At least on an official channel. Keeping them off is just getting younger generations asking 'Prince, who?' Plus it's really hard to introduce someone new to Prince's music without it being there for the public to at least sample!

Secondly and most importantly for the fans, release re-issues of your 1978-1988 catalog with bonus tracks and outtakes in the best possible sound quality. (and don't mess with the originals)

Even a reissue of 1999 done like this below would sell far better than a new album and get people to remember/find out just how amazing Prince is:

1999 (Deluxe) 2CD/1DVD

Disc 1

1. 1999

2. Little Red Corvette

3. Delirious

4. Let's Pretend We're Married

5. D.M.S.R.

6. Automatic

7. Something In The Water (Does Not Compute)

8. Free

9. Lady Cab Driver

10. All The Critics Love U In New York

11. International Lover

Disc 2

1. How Come U Don't Call Me Anymore (B-Side)

2. Horny Toad (B-Side)

3. Irresistible Bitch (B-Side)

4. Little Red Corvette (Dance Remix)

5. Do Yourself A Favour (Outtake)

6. Turn It Up (Outtake)

7. Baby You're A Trip (Outtake)

8. Extra Loveable (Outtake)

9. Moonbeam Levels (Outtake)

10. Lust U Always (Instrumental Outtake)
11. Something In The Water (Does Not Compute) (Unreleased Version)

Disc 3:

DVD

Live In Houston '82 / Live In Lakeland '83 + Promotional Videos and Appearances

Giving the fans a little of what they want, and allowing the public to see what Prince is all about, will get people to buy into whatever Prince's new project is in droves!

All his albums realeased in that same way, would be great, with videos of the era, peformances in award shows and a concert and of course unrealeased material.

The last 3 years or so have convinced me that there is nothing he could do in terms of new music or tours that he won't fcuk up out of either laziness, arrogance, or philosophical drama. So POPULAR might be a stretch in terms of a new album.

But a biographical movie could be a can't miss hit, in a Straight Outta Compton way, so as long as he license the 80's hits and let's the story be as graphic as it really was (R-rating).

:woot:

That's a nice start for the 'regular' expanded edition wink
It wouldn't take much of a stretch to push it out to an 8 disc / 3 DVD set. The Avenue, Birthday Gig, Warehouse rehearsal just for a start. There HAS to be a number of outtakes as well.

Movie Poster, limited vinyl collection, film cells, tour program, copy of the script, etc those are just things off the top of my head you could include. Dreams are free, right...

I agree with the first part, but I can't see them making a Straight Outta Compton because it would always be compared to the somewhat biographical R-rated Purple Rain.

That's not the topic of this thread though! wink

While were on it though, could Prince's cred really be killed by a wack TV show? He has been on a few of those already.
