Vinyl reissues

Don't know if this was discussed here in the past, but it looks like it's finally starting.

This might get delayed as the first re-issue is scheduled for release 2 weeks after RSD and most likely the pressing factories won't be able to meet the deadline(it is very common for vinyl releases in April to be delayed)

Cool enough. I'd have no interest in this myself since I'm happy with the original pressings.

Also there's been a few re-pressings over the years, how is this different? Is it just more complete? For You doesn't seem to have had a legit pressing since the 80's.

Some Controversy repressings for example:

Yes.... great news, in case these vinyl-reissues will be in Deluxe 180 grams LP's then I am buying them all...

(I hope For You 1978 to Lovesexy 1988 will be released)

Ps in case you don't know, the old standard LP's are pressed in 140 grams vinyl..

It's doubtful i'll ever have a setup where i'll notice those extra 40 grams. Good info though!

What's the advantage of the extra 40 grams? Won't it make it spin slower?

for cheaper record players it will weigh it down and the sound won't be as good or clear...

Will there be extra tracks or is that a ridiculous and naive Q?!

There's "something" about having a "Side A" & "Side B" to the experience of a Prince album

Beginning the 2nd half of the experience with a "Mountains", a "U Got The Look"; or ending Side A with "Anna Stesia" was too cool.

CD's have created a different sequencing notion that isn't as good smile

But what is the benefit of it being heavier - if you had a better turntable or one with a pitch control.

Great news!
Was just spinning my copy of For You about an hour or two ago and wishing for a reissue!
My reissued copies of DM/C/1999/PR from whenever they came out in the 2010s sound great. If this is through WB/Rhino hopefully we'll get For You - TGE !

Heavier/thicker disc means deeper grooves can be cut which should mean better quality and clarity. Also means the disc is just that bit sturdier.

It's not a rule that 180g releases are better as so much depends on mastering and pressing with vinyl, but generally 180g releases will cost a bit more and have a bit of extra attention lavished on them (e.g thick gatefold sleeve, printed inner sleeves etc)

very debatable... many audiophiles say, it has no difference what so ever...

Just picked up Parade 2nd hand this week for €8. Now Missing For you/Prince/ and from Diamonds onward unti AOA/PL on Vinyl. Really looking forward to this. Somebody said it earlier, but I am enjoying going back to the A/B side experience. Someone said Mountains...

Thank you for your answers, all very helpful and informative. So, one final question - and you may not know the answer, I was wondering whether these will differ (other than mentioned already) in any sonically from the original vinyl I already have? I have everything up to Graffitti Bridge already on vinyl I purchased at or close(ish) to the time of release.

.

This does all sound very cool indeed.

.

I will certainly be buying these, however, all of the original vinyl pressings are great so I don't see how they can be improved. In fact all of my vinyl albums were bought from new and most are still sealed - no reason other than not needing to play them as I have them on CD smile

.

I hope the original artwork source files are used. I find sometimes vinyl re-issues use a poor scan of an original sleeve, which is very crazy and gives a rubbish result - for example the 12inch re-issues a few years ago!

.

For reference, here are the recent 2009-2011 re-issues:

.

So hopefully this will one day happen for real, but I guess until then, this will still be regarded as a missed opportunity.

Adorecream

What about those of us with those horrible new players that can play 180gsm records. A lot of the USB capable type record players have this problem. Mine cost $200, but found out it was a cheap piece of Chinese crap that can only really play pre 1982 records and 45s.

Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name

I also saw that 'propaganda' against WB. I think they really meant to use the word 'licensing'.

.

In fact, anyone can license an album to re-issue it. It's happening far too often at the moment. I actually think WB would never be interested in doing this at all. If anyone was to be involved in such a project, it would be the likes of Rhino.

.
