Never knew there were full versions of some of the re-recorded songs on this release, untill I found them on the Work It compilation. (Head, When Doves Cry, Alphabet St, Poplife).

Obviously nowhere near as good as the originals but nice addittion to the collection.

- I have always thought The Purple Medley was made for the American Music Awards! 1995/96?

because Prince performed the short part there..... he played 4 minutes or so, plus then Eye Hate U/ 319 (by memory),

He lipsynched but it was still extremely-cool, because the new songs were unheard, totally new.....

Back then I was like...... excited excited

The version of PM played before TGE concerts features a slightly extended Batdance segment within the start of the track.

It was simply a promo tool for the upcoming tour in the UK that March, as he wasn't playing any of the hits on thattour, the medley usually played before each show. He did later play the purple medley live in 1995 too. As someone stated above about 'he was re-recording his back catologue at the time', he wasn't doing that until 1999. And Kirky J mixed the b-side to the medley.

Some of the re-recordings were great, it really worked for the first two albums material. Stuff of For You and Prince but with Rave style production, it was light and airy, very poppy and synthy with a lot of work done by Mr Hayes on the stuff, especially I Wanna Be Ur Lover and Soft and Wet. He got as far as Around the world in a day before he'd lost interest in the project.

I always assumed that it was just a quick medley that he threw together for his appearance on the American Music Awards....and then later decided to release it as a single.

I think this is the most likely scenario.
