The Paisley Park instrumental has been around for a while, I always quite liked it but questioned it's authenticity. I had it labelled as Joy. I cant even remember where I got it from.

. You insensitive clod! These are mere gems compared to phase 1 and two combined. I will get some storage for more of this. Pills and thrills and daffodils will kill... If you don't believe me or don't get it, I don't have time to try to convince you, sorry.

. . but: . What if it appears on a decent commercial medium in 25 years time? Do we complain or will we be happy? Pills and thrills and daffodils will kill... If you don't believe me or don't get it, I don't have time to try to convince you, sorry.

in 25 years time, I probably won't care lol If he worked with FDeluxe and they released this with Prince I think it would be really cool I'm happy just for this right now, no expectations

Paisley Park instrumental sounds like him just vamping about to find a groove. It does have a pop song structure. I wonder what kind of song he would have put over it if he had gone further? The two new remixes get really cool with the instrumental extended portions towards the end of each song. I'd love to hear an extended "Pheremone" My art book: http://www.lulu.com/spotl...ecomicskid

True, although this was from the period when Prince wasn't sure about the direction of The Family. Early on, Prince was recording songs for them, but until Eric Leeds came along and added his sax, the band didn't have their complete character. I think that is why some of the outtakes from this project (Miss Understood, etc.) just didn't fit the vibe.
The outtake that I wish was included on the album was Feline. That is a great song, and from what I understood, it was one of Eric's favs (although the rap was pretty offensive so that could have been removed).
The expanded version of my book PRINCE and The Purple Rain Era Studio Sessions 1983-1984 was released in November 2018. (www.amazon.com/gp/product/1538114623/ref=dbs_a_def_rwt_bibl_vppi_i0) or www.facebook.com/groups/1...104195943/

This is interesting. I actually always wondered what Prince exactly had in mind with The Family, even at the end, maybe you know more about this? We all know this anecdote when P supposedly told Paul (I think it was Paul) "let's make some of that Duran Duran money", which I understand as "let's have a white face on a Starr/Pailsy production and release less R&B, more new wave/pop oriented music. However the final product was so odd an arthouse record (I don't mean this in a bad way) that I fail to see how it fulfills any commercial purpose. It's a strange mix of 2 jazz-funk instrumentals, 2 typical Prince-sounding funk songs, 3 untypical and excessively dramatic pop songs and 1 even more untypical ballad that doesn't even have a rhythm section to it. I know Prince got away with some serious experimentations but this officially was not something by him, so by definition harder to sell. The Family is now recognized as a masterpiece, but I can't figure out what the target audience for The Family was supposed to be, except hardcore Prince fans. It had nothing to do with Duran Duran's cool but totally accessible and clearly "white" pop. A COMPREHENSIVE PRINCE DISCOGRAPHY (work in progress ^^): https://sites.google.com/...scography/

Um. I like the album version much better. My same opinion goes for "Dark" The same opinion of mine is the same feeling after hearing the "extended remix" of 'Vicky Waiting' i was expecting something amazing, but then it wasn't. it was just different. but not better.

That funky guitar and bass jam on the coda of the extended So Dark is the best thing about the whole track! It's a lot better than the lukewarm redo of the song itself. Shame he didn't put that part on the Crystal Ball set years ago. A true masterclass in funky guitar right there. Surely it can only be played by Prince.
As for the Come (Straight Remix), it sounds identical to the album version to me .

Hey now, Duran Duran had some funky grooves going on with that bass. It was just topped with straight pop synth, and vocals. My art book: http://www.lulu.com/spotl...ecomicskid

I could just hear Wendy, Lisa, Susannah singing wordless harmony vocals throughout this "Paisley Park". And it's so Songs In The Key Of Life!
"Come" was cool. "18 & Over" was obviously derived from this.
"So Dark" - Dig it, some Mo' Dark at the end. I'm one of the few who actually prefer "So Dark" to it's original version. *Shrug*
Thanks to whoever freed these. This was fun.

At more than 11 minutes, a stripped down remix like this is too much to digest.
