We've discussed this track to death on two occasions already - the original Reloaded version with Andy's rap and then the subsequent release that removed it. |

Isn't it identical to the non-rap release? RIP

Falls way short of the original bootleg. Extra forgettable.

I am inclined to agree with you. It is like a toothless shark who once had a fantastic bite. Double row of teeth no less. Now not so much. Still, you can sort of hear the real song deep in there so I have not taken it off the playlist just yet, but it is living precariously...

give me cowbells instead of all these horns

I am glad they still edited out the rap part...those lyrics were more cringeworthy than rape, turning his momma on, daddy being gone and door number pants in original version. I kinda wish they included the repeated lyrics "If U don't stop the groove Extra lovable beat tell ur body what 2 do" I always liked that part and fun way to end this song Overall, I dig this new version Don't need no reefer, don't need cocaine..Purple music does the same 2 my brain

the 80's version is way better. Prince recorded it again and the magic is gone. would have been a hit back then [Edited 12/14/15 19:23pm]

The worst thing on the album by far. Other than this hot mess and Screwdriver, it's a decent album. This track really taints it though, leaves a bad taste long after listening to it. That first spoken word line, my God. [Edited 12/14/15 20:09pm]

I honestly canNOT understand how anyone could favor the original cut over this one. I just can't. However my fave was the 2011 cut and its extended instrumental "remix", I think it's sexier with only synths and the horns, while gorgeous, kill a bit of the sexiness of it. Electrofunk is always the sexier than classic funk A COMPREHENSIVE PRINCE DISCOGRAPHY (work in progress ^^): https://sites.google.com/...scography/

I completely agree with you, I liked that version the best too. Electrofunk rules! RIP Prince: thank U 4 a funky Time...

I disagree. The original is awesome. I don't know if I have listened to the 2011 cut. I'll have to check that out.

I prefer the 2011 cut, but this one isn't bad. The original bootleg was a favorite of mine (other than that cringe-worthy rape line), but I actually thought the 2011 cut was better. The reloaded and album mix (which are near-identical) are just a bit too overproduced for my taste, but still...not bad. Do not hurry yourself in your spirit to become offended, for the taking of offense is what rests in the bosom of the stupid ones. (Ecclesiastes 7:9)

The album version is my favorite of the updated sound and I never liked the 2011 version because of the female rap. I edit the original boot to 5:41 and have it fade out when he starts calling Brown Mark. That version has an energy that's mpossible for Prince to replicate all these years later.

I love all versions. This has become my favorite version. I love the last couple of minutes. I wish he had added the instrumental version to the end.

Is the 2011 version the one with the woman rapping in the middle of it?

Yep! RIP Prince: thank U 4 a funky Time...

Where did this come out, I don't think I've ever heard it, was it the "B-side" of the vocal version? Heavenly wine and roses seems to whisper to me when you smile...
