Tidal store MP3 quality?

Has anyone bought any prince mp3 from tidal? Is it lame encoded V0 or 320 kbps? Does it use some other encoder? Does anyone have any info? Much appreciated.

I bought 2 MP3's and they were both 256. That was disappointing. But decent enough. I guess if you buy the Flac you can convert to 320.

Umm... why? Just buy FLAC and use a free convertor (like FLACfrontend) to convert to whatever format your car likes at whatever bitrate you like. wink

I know, right?

Always get the lossless option (in this case FLAC) for backup. From there, if you want MP3, if you want 320kbps, if you want a LAME conversion, whatever, you can have it, secure in the knowledge that you got the filetype you need for your device at the bitrate you prefer made with the encoder you prefer. It's really that simple and that fast, plus, you still have the lossless backed up for the future.

This reminds me of a discussion I had on here a couple years ago with someone who prefered digital copies to physical copies. At the time, the album 1999 was available as a digital rip from Amazon for $9.99. The CD was also available, AT THE SAME PRICE, and the CD came with a free digital copy. Even if Amazon rips were LAME 320kbps (they were NOT), the only sane purchase would be the CD. The individual in question could not see the logic in buying the disc, getting the free digital copies (or ripping their own higher quaity digital copy) and ALSO getting the disc to: collect, resell, give as a gift, whatever...

To Funkyalien I have to say: it takes less time to convert a FLAC to a LAME 320 MP3 than it takes to post a complaint on the org. Just sayin'... cool

Hey that effort has stopped me from listening to Goldnigga for about 3 years now. If it was Purple Rain i'd have done it immediately.
