The Grand Progression is way to experimental in its minimalism and non pop melody to have fit in the movie or album with all those other pop songs. I have this funny feeling that if it was the other way around and Still Would Stand All Time was the bootleg, you ALL would be flipped in what you write.

The Grand Progression sounds a bit retro Vangelis. I do like it.

Not all of us. I LOATHE Still Would Stand All Time. Fuck that song.

I've always thought he didn't release Grand Progression, as he felt it came off too much like a 70s Stevie Wonder ballad. For me, the Stevie influence is obvious/ too obvious. Prince generally likes to evoke his musical influences, rather than outright imitate.

I love it too, it really builds up to a crescendo and is a beautiful haunting melody. I can see this song as a companion piece to Still would stand all time.

.

Why oh why was this not placed on Graffiti bridge in place of some of the dreadful filler like the title track and New Power Generation?

Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name

Think I posted this "dream" track list of GB a while back...

But I said if The Grand Progression was on GB and all the filler was off the album... GB would have easily been his best album of the 90's... Songs like Joy in Repetition, The Question Of U, We Can Funk, Thieves In The Temple, Elephants & Flowers, The Grand Progression... Man it would've been a great album... But it wasn't... lol

Great chorus. Uninspiring, meandering verse. It feels like he hadn't finished writing it.

Yes, it's not finished. Or I should say, the copy I have didn't even have Michael B on it yet.

There's over a dozen tracks that I think Prince should be arrested for not releasing officially.

I've got the final version with TC Ellis replacing the Prince vocals.

The Grand Progression is more "church". Beautiful. It has organ music and it was intended for the ending of the Graffiti Bridge film. Revelation is seductive. Bedroom. It has sexy saxophone and passionate guitar and blows Batman's Scandalous away. Imo. smile

Eye'm pretty sure prince will redo it & release it. He is well aware of how much his "Purple Collective" loves this ballad that's his best unveiled "MaStErPiEcE"!
