Time to release Bataclan album

Remember the Bataclan single from NPGMC? And it's ending "to be continued, like your grandma's long feet" or something similar. That sure suggested there was an imminent release of the full Bataclan 2002 show by Prince. And then nothing, and the NPGMC shuts down.

I think it's time to finally release that (double) album.

All proceeds should go to the families of the victims of the recent Paris attacks.

This would be a great way to honor the victims and release some amazing music.

Prince, are you listening? We need a new breed, stand up, and release it (sung to to the tune of Sexuality)

Not cool. It would totally be using a concert that had nothing to do with the terrorist attack to make money off of it. Even if some proceeds or even all proceeds went to the victims, it would be distastefully opportunistic.

Interesting reaction. I do see your points. I'm imaging U2 putting out such a release, and I see how it could be considered inappropriate.

it still seems there should be a way for it to be respectful.

I like that he's streaming a Paris concert on Friday, but this would be seen as a little too opportunistic.

I think it would be a great way to pay tribute. I dont see it as distasteful if the proceeds were donated. It would help to heal. I've been listening to the bootlegs... to remember the venue, to mourn the losses.

On the NPG Music Club site site he sold a download single called Bataclan from a 2002 show. It had NPG In This Funky House (more or less the NPG song Johnny, just mostly instrumental) and All the Critics Love U in Paris (obviously a version of All the Critics Love U in New York). That's the single Controversy99 was referring to.

I don't see a problem with releasing that show and dedicating proceeds in somem way, if he wanted. No, it's not directly related to the attack, but so what? And it wouldn't be a case of producing a lackluster track in response to an event... instead, it's taking something he already has that reflects an actual connection to the location. Heck, it's not inconceivable that had the proposed tour gone through he might have played a set at the Bataclan. It's a justifiable release, in my view. I don't see what would be wrong.

But it doesn't really matter, because there's little chance he'd release any such album--though I guess the Paris video upcoming on Tidal might also be seen in part as a sympathy for Paris gesture (yes, I know he's used the show in other ways in the past, but it still might be part of what's going on now).

No....fuck that. Bataclan Bataclan Bataclan. That shit happened. No need AT ALL to pretend it didnt, or silence it. Just don't use the event to forward your own notierity or personal agenda. Tacky and distasteful. And someone who has only released one live record over 40 years and is brimming with respect, is unlikely to use that event in that manner.
