Best according to which criterias? There are many ways the quality of a work of art can be assessed.

And is it really necessary to compare albums? Can't they just be judged for what they are?

For me 3121 is just ok. I like TRC, Planet Earth, Lotusflower, AOA and HNR better. Its all subjective to personal tastes. There is no right or wrong. Everyone like different things. 3121 is just aiiight to me though. It is better than Musicology, MPLS and 2010 for me though.

IMO, 3121 stumbles after the suberb title track. I can't bother to listen to it after Black Sweat, I don't know, to me it's just bland, souless, "Prince desperate for hits", etc.. Strangely though, other than garbage like Life of the Party, I can listen to Musicology pretty much straight through. It feels more like a Prince album to me.

Man, this is a SERIOUS topic

Any album that gave us "Love", "The Word" and "Get on the Boat" can't be all bad. 3121 is like most Prince albums, only a little more consistent. 2 or 3 great songs, 2 or 3 good ones, 2 or 3 mediocre ones and 1 or 2 turds, the turds this case being "Te Amo Corazon" and "Satisfied".

"Love" and "The Word" are classics though.

I loved it at first but I hardly listen to any of its songs anymore. Still, a fairly consistent album. I think I like AOA better, though, and proably Lotusflower as well

BTW, Prince just added 3121 to TIDAL.

I strongly agree with you on TRC and AOA.

As for the 3rd of the 3, in my list I would place "N.E.W.S", but I understand that being an instrumental album it is not considered by many fans a proper P album.

Musically talking, I think it is better than "Lotusflow3r".

Musicology is, and there's hope for the others since he's still slowly adding things. Planet Earth was taken down though, but maybe we'll see it come back like Lovesexy just did.

EDIT: Just noticed the copyright on Lovesexy now just says "NPG Records" with no mention of being "under exclusive license to Warner Bros. Records, Inc." like it was when it was up before HitNRun came out, so I don't know what's going on there.

Yeah, I don't believe 3121 is the best Prince ANYTHING...

The title track is very good, Te Amo Corazon is sweet, Black Sweat is fun, but the rest sounds awfully lifeless and dated to me.

Fury is poorly written and lucklustre in its performance, Lolita is just embarrassing.

Love sounds like something even Madonna would have rejected (!), The Word like something a cheesy boyband would be proud of, The Dance is dull here compared to the earlier version and Get On The Boat is another track that should be exciting but is just lifeless and goes nowhere.

Hmm, Hit N Run is a breath of fresh air compared to this. And only Planet Earth is worse, for me.

Musicology has the awful Life O The Party, Cinnamon Girl and the cheesy A Million Days, but other than that flows very well and is miles ahead of 3121, for me...

One of the albums that I just can't play all the way through, it makes me yawn and cringe at the same time. Prince as a shadow of his former self. Very little wit, very little invention, not much artistry.

I really like Beautiful, Loved and Blessed

"Life O The Party" is not 'awful'...not even a little bit
