Prince done with 3rdEyeGirl

What do you all think about this? I heard from a very reliable source that Prince is completely done with the all girl band featuring Hannah, Ida, and Donna. He MIGHT use a couple of them separately but that's it. Not sure how I feel about this yet... but the new group he's been playing with sounds great! Also saw some tweets between Nik West and Ida that Ida is on a break... They may have been deleted but it's safe to assume no more 3rdEyeGirl!!

Prince's band doesn't really matter anymore, it's still the same 'music'.

Could you ask your reliable source to post a copy of his latest contract with WB on-line? Thanks!

My source tells me the opposite so it depends on who you talk to I guess. I am being told everyone is just on vacation and they will be back together very soon. I guess time will tell. Either way it doesn't really matter to me as long as he keeps making music

I'd imagine he just told them he was done with that idea for a bit, rather than FIRED THEM in a big dramatic fight.

I hope this is true. I saw him with 3rdEyeGirl this past spring and it was a great concert, but I believe he can find a much better, more interesting band. I'd like to see him make an amazing funk and rock cd without all the Mr Nelson crap and techno sounds. I want real music with meaningful lyrics that will stand the test of time. We need some horns too!! Maeco??

MIGHT = He's definitely using Donna in the new band.

I'm not sure if he's completely done with the others or not. The Weltons are still hanging at Paisley Park, but neither of them have been playing live with him.

Aside from using Ida in the future, Dont let the door.....and take Tamborine man with you. Imo
Prince did an interview with a woman at Record World. They talked about whatever, then he asked her: "Does your pubic hair go up to your navel?" At that moment, we thought maybe we shouldn't encourage him to do interviews.

hmmm so Prince is "done" with his current band and now wants to start over with a new band.

What else is new? smile This is how Prince operates....keep these members around until he gets bored with them, then he drops them like a hot potato. Why does this sound so familiar? LOL

but they suck anyway,so this time,it's good news.

3EG are great, but it does feel like it's time for a change. I'm interested in the Kirky/MonoNeon/Donna combo.

They had plenty of time to get better, but I'm not sure they ever did.
Prince probably got tired of not being able to play all those hits he always says he has too many of.

I was thinking the same, lol. If anyone follows his career, knows that's how he roll. The same on relationships with women.

none of this is real news. Miles Davis did it forever. Prince has been doing it since 86. the band doesn't really matter. people go to see Prince...except those on here who are utterly obsessed with the nostalgia of The Revolution lol

As I say in every "3rdEyeGirl is done" thread, I love them as a live act, and will miss them if they're gone for good. Ida is one of my favorite bassists, and anyone that says she sucks is talking out of their ass. Donna is cool, and I think she complements Prince's guitar playing. I don't think Hannah is as bad a drummer as everyone makes her out to be. I could do without her singing, though, but thankfully she didn't sing in concert except for one show in her hometown.

I'm still interested in hearing this new band, though. Prince trying to spur his creativity with a new lineup wouldn't be a bad thing.

I'll be interested to see if people still feel this way in a year. Last time Kirky J was in the band, people were calling for his head! (For the record, I wasn't one of them. Kirky isn't as great of a drummer as most of the folks P has had on the skins, but he's a compentent musician and a super nice guy).

Shh.. Prince will re-hire them and insist that WB release another terrible 3EG protoge album just to annoy us for talking crap about his bootleg Anti-Revolution bland, err, band.

Well I guess Prince officially said today that 3rd eye girl is gone and the new band is Kirky, mono and donna with himself. Its on the 3egtwitter page. I hope the band has a different name and not the "new power generation", "npg", or "3rdeyegirl". I am assuming he is going the funk route by the post. Why does he insist on having weak drummers? Why not John or Michael B? or someone new thats actually good? I am glad Donna is stil around. I like her. Mono should be fine although I really liked Ida but he is fine. Kirky was his WORST drummer ever followed by Hannah. I always feel like the band can only be as good as the drummer. I hope he has gotten better

On the Newpower era boots Kirky always sounds amazing, there's a track near the beginning of the sets where he has to do a load of fills, not quite a solo but getting there, and he plays brilliantly.

I've never seen him play but going by the official recordings of the time he seems great. He may keep a lower profile than some of Prince's other drummers but his playing seems bang on, I don't understand why he gets so much grief!

I personally think he gets a lot of grief because he isn't on the same level as Sheila E, John Blackwell or Michael B. That doesn't make him a bad drummer though, and I think it's really a matter of an unfavorable comparison. People get used to Prince having superhuman musicians in his band, and thus the bar gets raised way too high. When someone comes along who is merely "great", then folks tend to think they are crap.

Kirky is also one of those guys who got SO much better as time went on. I saw him play on the "Jam of the Year" tour about six or seven times, and over the course of those shows his playing got better and better. In any other band, people would be praising his abilities. I think P saw his potential, and wanted to make him into the musician he knew he could be. I doubt Prince would be bringing him back if he didn't feel that he was going to bring something to the table.

If you take a job in Prince's band, you know that it's a temporary arrangement. When it comes to an end I can't see the problem. You've been paid, raised your profile, hopefully developed as a musician and, OMG played with Prince.

I always thought he was pretty good. He doesn't inject a huge amount of personality into his playing but he's got a light touch and is absolutely bang on the one, no sloppiness at all.

I think a lot of the stick he got was for his machine beats which were pretty wack at the time and have dated badly. As prince fans we were used to really inventive programming prior to that.

If there's one reason the 'fro could be a wig, it's because he must have tore his own hair away reading comments like that as just a few years ago, it seemed 80% of Orgers wanted a more "rock" sound and 3EG was most likely him taking the advice, then... the pendulum swung right back - now it's "please mo' horns!".
