Scandalous Personally I feel Scandalous never gets the appreciation it deserves, due to the fact it was on the BATMAN soundtrack, which to many fans believe to be the album that "killed" his 80's streak of genius records...
The musical, lyrical composition of Scandalous is beautiful, the strings, arrangement and the sensual falsetto, makes it in my opinion one of the best Prince "ballads" of all time... Personally when I hear songs like I Hate U... It doesn't even compare to Scandelous... Crucial, Adore, even The Beautiful Ones to an extent, as great as those songs are, don't contain the sensual essence that Scandelous has.
Just such a dramatic, beautiful song... Just from the church bell intro, it sets the whole mood for the song... Brilliant, underappreciated, and always forgotten... Give this songs the props it deserves. [Edited 10/26/15 5:15am] | |

Love it. Especially the three part twelve inch. I think it does get props tho - especially as he's played it in recent years as well (can't remember exactly when but Defoe at montreux and maybe one of the gigs on the day of release of lotus flower and mplsound). . The Scandalous sex suite is 19+ minutes of incredible, consuming, haunting music. Its hard for me to listen to just "the crime" without listening to the passion and the rapture - in that order.
I agree, I don't think Scandalous gets props on here like it should, but I do think Insatiable gets a lot of props and it is, to me, of similar style.
I Hate U is another incredible song, but the scope of the Scandalous sex suite is what really sets it apart... the Scandalous sex suite is like 3 distinct acts in 1 play that all maintain the central theme beautifully. Awesome. Top 5 without question.

Scandalous was easily my favorite off Batman (though I thought Electric Chair and Partyman were also great), I even had the Sex Suite single back in the day. I love Scandalous and absolutely rave over The Scandalous Sex Suite. It's easily in my top 5 ballads. Combine the Suite with the almost 8 minute version of Insatiable off the recently outed original configuration of D&P and you have 27 minutes of pure sonic sexiness. Now the light fades out and I wonder what I'm doing in a room like this

This along with The Beautiful Ones are the 2 mos solid IMO... Even though the lyrics of Adore are genius, as well with Crucial... There's something missing in those 2 songs, compared to Scandalous and The Beautiful Ones. | |
