Flawless album indeed, but if I'm left with 5, I'm taking

1. Forever In My Life

2. Adore

3. Strange Relationship

4. If I Was Your Girlfriend

5. ICNTTPOYM

I can't see how there'd be a wrong answer, though.

Leaving songs off this list is hard. Too many classics on the album.

That's easy because when I first borrowed the double vinyl album and played it back in 1987, I defintely though only a few songs were good.

1. Sign o' the Times

2. Housequake

3. Ballad of Dorothy Parker

4. If I Was Your Girlfriend

5. It's Gonna Be a Beautiful Noght

All the other songs sounded really weak to me on my first weeks with the album. Even Adore which I grew to love later. I thought it sounded generic at the time. Thought other songs sounded like sketches of boring ideas.

I do believe that my initial feelings on it were the way mainstream ears heard the album (also I heard comments that friends of mine that were into top 40 hit songs said). But like i mentioned about Adore, other songs also won me over soon after. The movie really helped me to appreciate other songs as well.

There are some albums where to choose 5 songs between all is a crime.

"Sign O The Times" is one of this kind. I simply can't choose 5.

Instead I can choose the only track that it's not on the same level of the others....

"It's Gonna Be A Beautiful Night".

Yes, that's true. Thanx to this thread I listened to the entire album again and Beautiful Night was the only one that didn't hold my attention. Kind of in one ear, out the other. It works better in concert than on record.
