No, seriously!

hug Thanks it's appreciated.

Are you refering to the track on The Hits / The B-Sides? If so, I'm not sure what it is you're talking about. I don't hear anything "new" here.

Are you sure. At the end of Erotic City (b-side to let's go crazy), starts at 7.18 min lasts for the 2 seconds as the song fades out. It is a different ending.

It is not important, but I am positive that the end is different from my 12" version.

I'm confused. Mordang hears something not at the end of the track but AFTER the track?

And u don't hear nothing at all?

This is pretty important coz it'd mean an unreleased alternate mix has surfaced on Tidal!

yes..... the Purple Rain 12 inch is an EP, according TIDAL:

My Tidal page shows only about half of theose EPs. Is it because I'm on a free trial?

That's a reasonable theory...cuz I am too.

Certainly got my attention...

For all of you "Tidal-ers" out there, a quick question: is this the only "out of print" and/or "former bootleg" Prince tune on Tidal or are there others?

God (instrumental) long version, this is freakin awesome. To answer your question, yes, other out of print and not available material are on tidal. There's nothing that I've seen that only came out as a bootleg, but a lot of it was "bootlegged" so to speak. Most interesting to me are the NPGMC only releases: Xpectation, C-NOTE, ONA piano (I believe is on tidal), The Slaughterhouse, and The Chocolate Invasion. None of those have been available officially since 2005 (or was it 2006?) when the website shutdown. These have née discussed in other threads, but I figured I'd respond to your question directly.

Thanks alot and that's sounds promising!

Believe or not, I'm giving serious consideration to joining Tidal (and it'll be my 1st time ever with a streaming service) soley for access to old, out of print Prince joints.

This is the first time God (instrumental) is available in lossless, right? Not sure how up-to-date this is: http://prince.org/msg/7/329678, but that's pretty sweet if we have another "clear" version of a classic.

Can't u check ur 12'' just to be sure?

I can't use my recordplayer anymore I'm afraid. It would be a dayjob to retrieve it fromunder my junk in the attic. (let alone the fact that I have no idea if its still working) But I have a reference that might be of use.

Erotic City, The... Full Length Version is 7:24 long.

I have several copies as B-side. B-side for Girls and Boys, B-side for Let's go crazy, they al list as 7:24

I have digital copy, allbeit, from T's 12" archive, that is indeed 7:24 long and ends as "normal".

The version on Tidal is 7:20 long and at 7:18 there is a 2 second long added sound that I have never heard before. It sounds a bit like the guitar intro of Another Lonely Christmas. If it is, that sound, I can't tell.

I'm not familar with that 2 seconds on the end of Erotic City. Mayby I'm wrong, but if this isn't the place to get corrected for a mistake on a classic like that, than it is something "new".

Edit from my side: The sound is mixed in the song, because it starts at a point the prince voice can still be heard and the music is still playing (although fading very fast). It is therefore that I do think this version is actualy 4 seconds shorter (instead of 4 seconds faster, which is a whole different thing).

The 12" version of Erotic City does not seem to be available to me. Only the 7" version included on The B-Sides shows up. Maybe it's a regional thing?

Not the first time as this is a rip of the vinyl and the vinyl is of course lossless as well. This is the same version that was released 31 years ago.

You can tell it's sourced from vinyl. It's actually a little too obvious considering Prince can afford a high end turntable and do a better job of recording the song from vinyl. Plus I thought he got his master's back so why would it be sourced from vinyl?

I meant lossless digital, as in master reel-to-digital transfer. Alas, if it's just a rip of the vinyl, I'll stick with my T version! Thanks!

I'm pretty puzzled, is there any other artist than Prince that sources their digital rereleases from vinyls for chrissakes?

Reminds me of P selling Japanese TV recordings VCR cassettes of The Beautiful Experience back in 2001.

I mean seriously! He has the originals for all that stuff! This is so amateurish than it's nearly absurd. In fact it seems MORE complicated to rip the vinyl than to use the original master!

If you're willing to expand your definition of artist a little, I believe the DVD boxset versions of the "Original Star Wars Trilogy" i.e. the non-special editions were sourced from like Japanese Laserdiscs because George Lucas couldn't find the original film negatives. This discussion makes me worry that perhaps the old vault material is ruined or something's wrong with it, that's why we haven't seen any outtake releases (maybe Roadhouse Garden tapes were too messy to use, for example), and perhaps why the Purple Rain remaster is taking so long.

I know Howard Stern had that problem with his old tapes, they had to "cook" them in an oven to remove oxidation, then carefully transfer everything to digital. I wonder if maybe the old tapes are just unplayable. Maybe vinyl is the only master left, like some of the early Beatles and Elvis stuff.

If so, that would suck.

Cooking tapes is pretty standard. But, yes, the current state of Prince's original tapes is unknown. It was supposedly not looking good back in the 90s, so it has always been a worrying topic.

If they are vinyl rippings, they're still alot better than whatever he has released digitally or on cd earlier.

If we want to be entirely accurate, Its not called 'God (Instrumental)', it was registered and originally released as 'God'.

Its the vocal song that has a subtitle - 'God (Vocal)'.

They got sloppy by the time The Hits came out.

Whoever is doing the cataloging on this is doing a real amateurish job. Can't they give the job to Databank to sort out?
