I hate "P Control" biggrin Prince is trying too hard to be "gangsta" and it sounds extremely forced

I can't believe he removed the superior "Days Of Wild" (his most convincing rap song) from the album, but decided to include the ridiculous "P Control"

I just can't see how P. Control could be gangsta eek

It's a funk extravaganza, it's sexy, it's melodic, it's feminist, it's just everything gangsta rap wasn't. I actually like and listen to a lot of "gangsta" West Coast hip-hop from the early to mid-90's and I can tell u P.Control has NOTHING to do with any of it. It's another planet entirely.

I'd say u misunderstand it exactly the way certain critics misunderstood and shot down DOW in the musical press at the time (possibly prompting P to take it off the album): they accused DOW of trying to be gangsta when it was actually clearly denouncing the caricature, vulgarity and sexism of gangsta rap.

While Prince may be accused of trying to imitate hip-hop when he had actual rappers guesting, his own rap songs were always, in fact, totally funk and most of them had a feminine energy that was miles away from hip-hop's testosterone. Prince nearly created queer rap lol

"I wanna hip you all to the reason I'm known as the playa of the year"

"Pussy got bank in her pockets before she got dick in her drawers"

"a 12 o' clock straight up nigga that don't give a shit that you're pussy control

well,I'm that nigga"

biggrin it seems like this is Prince's answer to Snoop Dogg (lol),but it sounds forced and silly when he stoops to that level.

TGE suffered from poor promotion and it got caught in the middle of Prince's feud with Warners.Under different circumstances, this album would have been a huge seller like D&P.

This CD contained Prince's last big hit...Eye Hate U hit number 12 on the charts.

"Eye Hate U" could have been a much bigger hit if Prince had delivered the video confused The song had alot of early momentum and it was well-received on R&B radio. But with no video,it didn't reach its full potential.

I guess everything promotion wise for TGE was just so disorganized... He did the show on Letterman one year before he even began to promote TGE...

Everyone has their opinion and they're entitled to it, but I do SMH whenever I hear folks praise TGE or any other Prince album where he is attempting to rap. It's absolutely embarrassing...IMHO.

Make it so, Number One...

The promotion was terrible. This album had at least four or five potential hit singles, but after "Gold" was released as the second single, there were no further singles or promotion disbelief When this album was finally released,Prince seemed bored with it.
