Looks like Jay-Z's label is shelling out some money on the promo for the phsyical release... Hope it doesn't tank on the Billboard charts like Plectrum Electrum did...

seriously

and basically just for 2-3 decent songs @ ~$5-$7 per track. these jokers are really looking to milk fans. not a good business model, this is how most new acts and ventures go bankrupt.

Bunches of us ask for (nearly demand) a physical release.

Realizing that a large part of his fan base prefer physical releases to digital he makes it available.

Now we're bitching about the price... Really?!?

It's an independent release in an age where CDs don't really sell anymore. $14 is in an acceptable range, surely.

Those of us who prefer a CD to a download or a stream are getting one, and at a time where we can predict that the discs won't make much if any money.

I'd say those of us that prefer a disc we can collect are lucky and even those that aren't digging this one should pick it up, otherwise, there may be one you like in the future that's only available digitally.

In my not-so-humble opinion, of course... wink

Not being funny, but I would be surprised the physical release sold 1,000 copies. The physical release of the album has been underexposed due to Prince keeping a low profile on television and in concert. The press interviews he has given has been mainly about the streaming of the album on TIDAL.

Yep. I just called my local wrecka store and they will have it tomorrow. What a waste of time this TIDAL release was. Actually, I already have the songs downloaded as I'm sure most of you do. I collect, so I'll buy the physical copy. However, he should've released it in all formats day one and let people choose which format best suited them instead of trying to con his fans into subscribing to TIDAL.

Target stores died here woot! not the same as USA Targets ie. prices.

Wal-Marts here sell shit, barely any music. Getting a Prince album is basically Nil at Wal-Mart. They are not like HMV.

TIDAL subsidized this release with the streaming exclusive because everyone knows Prince can't get on the radio, get a hit or sell millions of records anymore. So no, it wasn't a waste. Would you rather he spend another 4 years away? Also, the physical release is a courtesy, and if you're griping about the price get ready, it's about to get a whole lot worse. Remember when vinyl LPs were under 10 bucks? Well now they're between 20 and 30 because vinyl is no longer the dominant format and once the economics of scale are gone the price goes up.

Unless you sell records like Taylor Swift or Katy Perry (which Prince doesn't) releasing CDs is going to increase in price as the format dies and they become more expensive to produce,

It was $19.98 for AOA and PE. And even that felt overpriced until I saw that the MP3s were the same price and the CDs came with auto-rip.

$5 less for a fourth of the content is pretty lame.

Should've stayed digital until all three volumes were released.

I paid $16.99 at Target, as good a deal as $14+shipping (+ waiting) from Amazon and a much better deal than $20 a month to rent a lossless stream from Tidal. I'm good.

It would be acceptable if the music is excellent. But for this pile of shit I'm not willing to pay that price. I'll maybe pick it up in a few years from the bargain bin to complete my collection. I'll maybe do the same with AOA in acouple of years.

Gone are the days where I camped outside the record store when a new prince album came out. But back then he was awesome. I still get excited when he tours, but his new music is really bad.

It is not going to sell because most people are not buying Cd. It is a dying medium for music and this will probaly be the last Prince cd.

Correct glad to have someone in touch with reality. People on this complain that Prince knows nothing about business but most on this board have no more knowledge than he does.
